Idaho House of Representatives District 13 seat A
So much. Unfortunately, in Idaho we have to begin by stopping all the deliberate harm that's being done. We have to stop the attacks on the LGBTQ community, Medicaid, and public schools. We have to stop gutting government services in order to pay for tax breaks for the rich. While we are doing that, I would like to work on affordable housing, improving access to public health and improving our public education.
Besides years of experience working in government and closely following government policies and politics, nothing has prepared me so much as running for this seat in 2024. Speaking to so many citizens about how they feel about our state government, what they want and what their priorities are, has taught me how deeply out of touch our legislature is with the public. People expect the government to work for them, to improve their lives. They don't want the government to chase after bathroom bills or to ban pride flags. Even if some folks like those efforts, they don't believe it's a good use of our time and tax dollars.
Honestly, fixing our housing situation may be the biggest challenge ahead of us. There are many stakeholders, with sometimes conflicting goals. There are many possible solutions, and we need to be willing to try a variety of them. Getting cooperation from Republicans, developers, property owners, and local governments to find solutions that actually help make living in Idaho affordable will involve a lot of people putting aside political ideology and looking at what is actually known to work. Being able to afford your rent shouldn't be a partisan issue!
This race isn't about me. It's about the people of Nampa and Idaho and what is best for them. People feel let down and left out of the political process by politicians who make a point of ignoring their wishes. We need to elect leaders who are willing to invest in their communities and take their constituents seriously, even if they don't always agree with them. Many people today are worried, even scared, about their future. We need to build our communities and support them, because stronger communities are how we will get through future challenges together.
