A large portion of the job is maintaining a balanced budget. The goal is to be good stewards of taxpayer dollars, identifying areas of wasteful spending while supporting services necessary for the community to thrive.
As I am up for reelection I now have two years in the Legislature working with community stakeholders and building relationships with other lawmakers. I am a proven problem solver that is quick to listen with work experience as a financial auditor, school administrator, police officer, and Marine veteran, along with a bachelor's degree in business.
With more and more people moving to Idaho, as Vice Chairman of Transportation, working with industry experts in support of our roads and infrastructure needs is a continual priority for me.
Legislators respond to those that show up. Continue to connect with your elected officials to create a dialogue on issues that are important to you:)

"Goodness is the only investment that never fails."

Be well,

Josh

I am running for the Idaho Senate to restore service, integrity, and accountability. As a veteran of the Air Force and retired U.S. Foreign Service Officer, I am not a career politician. I believe in term limits and banning dark money so leaders answer to people, not insiders. My priorities include restoring funding for the Idaho Crimes Against Children Task Force that was cut this session. As a grandfather, I believe protecting kids from predators is a non-negotiable priority. As the father of a West Ada teacher, I have seen classrooms asked to do more with less. I will demand transparency to ensure tax dollars reach students and teachers. I will listen to your needs and pursue your priorities instead of pursuing my own personal agenda.
Born in Twin Falls and raised on a farm, I learned hard work, responsibility, and how to solve problems head-on. My 38 years in the Air Force and U.S. Foreign Service taught me that leadership means service, accountability, and putting people first. Serving in places like Moscow, Cairo, Qatar, and in the Philippines taught me to listen, work with people from all backgrounds, and lead under pressure. As a Chief HR Officer and senior enlisted leader, I focused on protecting people, staying close to their concerns, and addressing problems early. As a husband of 44 years, I’ve also learned the value of listening, communication, and commitment. That is how I will serve my constituents in the Senate.
The most significant challenge is delivering fiscally conservative leadership without compromising what makes Idaho great. Right now, we are falling short. This session included millions in cuts to public education, along with millions cut from the Idaho State Police and cuts to the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. We are losing state troopers to Washington because we are not adequately funding our own force, sometimes leaving rural communities hours from a response. We must balance our budget without abandoning our priorities. We can keep taxes low and still provide these essential services, but only if we are committed to both. I will bring the disciplined leadership needed to make sure our budget reflects our values.
As a lifelong Republican, I am committed to the traditional tenets of our party: limited government, protecting life, fiscal discipline, and liberty. I am not a career politician looking for a new title; I am a veteran and a grandfather who believes leadership is about service, not power. My 38-year career in the Air Force and Foreign Service was built on an oath to the Constitution, not to special interests, and I will continue that mission. I will fight to protect our children, support our law enforcement, and ensure your tax dollars are spent with transparency. I will get in, do the job you sent me to do, and return to private life having done my best to restore principles of integrity, service, and accountability to the Idaho Senate.

The single greatest obstacle to family formation today is the cost of housing. If elected, I will work to increase housing attainability by stabilizing prices while improving the job prospects of the rising generations by focusing on the long-term economic growth of Idaho.

I will work to reduce property taxes, providing short-term relief to homeowners by removing the cap on the exemption for owner-occupied homes while we work toward long-term reform.

I will work to improve criminal justice outcomes by rewarding efforts toward rehabilitation and implementing tougher sentences for repeat and violent offenders.
I have dedicated my professional career to public service. As a deputy attorney general and as a prosecutor, I fought for Idaho, defending our values in court and protecting our communities.

As general counsel for our several healthcare boards, I helped draft, advocate for, and implement a dozen pieces of legislation. I led a comprehensive review of our administrative regulations. We promoted permissionless innovation in healthcare and, by focusing on protecting patients, were able to significantly reduce regulatory and bureaucratic overhead.

I continue to serve on the board of directors for CASA of Southwest Idaho, advocating for children in foster care, and as a Captain in the Army National Guard, serving both Idaho and the nation.
We face several challenges. We have long neglected our water infrastructure, including improved capture, recapture, and storage technologies, the consequences of which we will feel acutely this coming year.

We have fewer medical professionals per capita than any other state, and some of our rural areas are medical deserts, where patients must travel hours to find care. Decisions made this last session will further aggravate that challenge.

We have a criminal justice system that makes recidivism easy and rehabilitation hard.

My background has prepared me to help address each of these challenges.
Along with our challenges, we also have some great opportunities. We can increase our energy production at a remarkable scale by pivoting to safe, clean, and reliable nuclear energy. The emerging economy will be heavily reliant on energy, and Idaho is well positioned to be a major supplier of that energy.

We also live in a state with abundant natural resources, including rare earth minerals necessary for emerging technologies.

By seizing these opportunities, we will accelerate Idaho’s long-term economic growth, providing our children with brighter prospects.
