I am seeking re-election to the board. I ran to ensure all students in QAC are represented. As a mom of a student that went thru the QAC system from Kindergarten to Graduation and seeing all the opportunities that were offered to her, I want to make sure that all students in the county have a similar experience. I am a program manager and systems engineer by trade, I understand business and finance and can continue to aid the administration in operations, communications and transparency.
As a parent, our role is example setters for our children. Teachers are the educators, that help children achieve academic potential and unlock hidden capabilities. Board members are advocates for the children, representatives for parents, teachers, and community. The board works with the Administration to develop policies and standards for the county. Not every transaction can be exposed to the public, but how money is spent and what is being taught should be an open book.
Staffing and retention is the number one activity for our county. We have a lot of new teachers and keeping them, developing their skills to make them long term members of our teaching community is a must. Funding support is needed most. Every parent and community member should contact their state representative and remind them that our students are our future. Special and paraeducators are the most needed. Filling these positions allows our teachers to focus the remainder of their classes.
Teachers give so much of their time and monies to do the job. I would be on board to giving them a specific amount for classroom supplies, but giving our financial situation, it is hard to say what that limit should be. Should it be the same across the grade levels, how would it occur, is it for a specific activity or a general fund that all class rooms get a part of? This is something I am willing to look into and will bring up at the April 2026 board meeting.
My priorities continue as such; ensuring student success, teacher retention and development, having members of the board who are on the board for the children. Children have a very short time to be children, their time in k – 12 should be spent learning and developing so that they can reach their potential (and beyond) and become contributing members of society. They have many years past grade school to decide their political position and life aspirations for now, lets let them be kids.
