A justice of the peace in the state of Texas presides over the justice court in a geographical area (precinct) in cases involving misdemeanors, small civil disputes, landlord/tenant disputes, conducts inquests, and may perform marriage ceremonies. The term of office is four years.Duties: hears traffic and other Class C misdemeanor cases punishable by fine only; hears civil cases with up to $20,000 in controversy; hears landlord and tenant disputes; hears truancy cases; performs magistrate duties; and conducts inquests.

I completed more than the State required 120 hours of judicial education focused on judicial procedures, Texas civil and criminal law, ethics and judicial conduct. I retired as an undercover CIA senior operations officer with several thousand hours of training and extensive experience working with law enforcement officers and prosecutors demonstrating adherence to US law and a commitment to our national security. After retirement from CIA I also served with a federal task force working against human trafficking and was badged as a law enforcement officer. Over my career as a Marine, minister, intelligence officer and judge, I’ve exercised an ability to collaborate with other agencies to achieve results and have shown wisdom, compassion, and an ability to read other people as well as lead and mentor others.
The Justice of the Peace Precinct 2 is a Magistrate, Judge and Coroner on 24-hour duty 20-21 days a month. As Magistrate, the law enforcement’s complaints for all crimes up to capital murder are reviewed, and if appropriate approved. I explain county jail inmates’ rights, assign bail bond amounts for release from custody and determine bond conditions. As needed, mental health assistance is obtained for inmates and emergency protection orders issued for victims of violent crime. As Judge, I preside over fine-only criminal cases, issue arrest warrants and issue search warrants. I preside over civil lawsuits for damages of $20,000 or less, and hear debt cases, evictions, and all tenant-landlord disputes. As Coroner, I investigate all unattended deaths to determine the manner and cause of death as well as notify next-of-kin and sign death certificates. There are other administrative proceedings with truancies and the issuance of occupational driver’s licenses.
I possess extensive experience in law enforcement and environmental Health and safety management. I hold a Bachelor degree in social criminal justice, Master Peace Officer certification, Completed 1560 hours Texas commission of law enforcement and education, Former Municipal Police Sergeant, Sheriff's Deputy, Former Industrial Firefighter and Former Emergency Medical Technician, Former Detention officer & Correctional officer and retired Environmental Health & Safety Manager.
