If elected to the School Board, my priorities are academic excellence, fiscal responsibility, and real accountability. Fairfax County spends billions on our school system, and taxpayers deserve transparency, independent oversight, and results. I will focus on student outcomes in the classroom, responsible budgeting, and making sure contracts and programs deliver real value. The School Board must ask hard questions, challenge groupthink, and make decisions based on data and common sense. Parents are essential partners in education and deserve honesty, respect, and clear communication. I will be an independent voice focused on restoring trust and putting students and families first.
FCPS will not retain a strong workforce if educators feel unheard, disrespected, or pressured by politics. Having run for School Board twice in Fairfax County, teachers regularly come to me because they do not feel they have a voice and fear speaking openly. Recruitment and retention require more than pay increases. They require a culture of respect, professionalism, and open dialogue. We must support teachers in the classroom, reduce unnecessary bureaucracy, and ensure decisions are driven by student needs, not ideology. A truly diverse workforce includes diversity of thought. When educators feel valued, listened to, and trusted, they stay, and our students benefit.
There has been a lot of rhetoric around “book removals,” but what I hear from parents is concern about age-appropriate materials in the classroom, not censorship. Parents expect transparency and a voice when materials raise legitimate questions. FCPS should have clear, consistent review processes that involve educators, parents, and professionals, and that are applied thoughtfully rather than politically. We can uphold intellectual freedom while also respecting parental concerns and developmental appropriateness. Open communication and common sense, not labels or assumptions, are the best way to maintain trust and ensure students are exposed to material that supports learning at the appropriate grade level.
Every student deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, and schools must be safe places for all children. At the same time, parents are not optional participants in their children’s lives. I have personally seen the harm that occurs when schools withhold critical information from families. A close friend of mine learned that her child had socially transitioned at school without her knowledge or involvement. That experience shattered trust and should never happen to any family. Policies should prioritize student well-being while also ensuring transparency and parental involvement. Schools should support students, respect families, and avoid secret-keeping that undermines trust. Restoring honest communication between schools and parent
