Family District Court Judge, District 246
District courts are trial courts of general jurisdiction of Texas. They have original jurisdiction in felony criminal cases, divorce cases, cases involving title to land, election contest cases, civil matters in which the amount of money or damages involved is $200 or more, and any matters in which jurisdiction is not placed in another trial court. The courts may specialize in civil, criminal, juvenile, or family law matters. Four-year term.

What will you do to promote the just, prompt, and affordable resolution of cases that come before your court?
What do you consider the most pressing issues facing family court today, and what is your role as a family court judge in addressing them?
Promoting the just, prompt, and affordable resolution of cases in the 246th Family District Court requires a combination of administrative discipline, deep legal expertise, and a steadfast commitment to the families who enter the courtroom. Family law disputes involve the most sensitive aspects of human life—children, parental rights, financial security, and personal safety. Delayed justice in a family court is not merely an inconvenience; it can cause instability for children and severe financial strain for parents.
To fulfill the constitutional and ethical duty of the bench, my approach centers on proactive docket management, expanding accessible pathways to dispute resolution, and applying specialized, trauma-informed jurisprudence.
Family courts face three critical challenges: a surge in self-represented litigants who struggle to navigate complex legal procedures, mounting case backlogs that delay vital resolutions, and increasingly complex cases involving domestic violence, mental health, and substance abuse.
As a family court judge, my role is to ensure fair, efficient, and compassionate justice by simplifying proceedings to ensure unrepresented parties are heard without compromising judicial neutrality; promoting mediation and alternative dispute resolution to reduce delays and minimize trauma for children; and leveraging community resources to address underlying root causes like addiction, keeping the child’s best interests paramount.
