What will you do to promote the just, prompt, and affordable resolution of cases that come before your court?
In setting bail amounts, how will you balance Texas's constitutionally mandated bail requirements with other conditions of release including minimizing any public safety threat the defendant may present to the community? Please discuss both first time and repeat offenders.
I've implemented a Docket management process which has led to the efficient processing of cases. This efficiency assures competent counsel is afforded to the defendant to ensure all of their rights are protected.
This efficiency reduces the number of unproductive court appearances, while simultaneously producing relevant evidence to get to resolution in a faster manner. Faster resolution reduces costs.
My process has proven successful, where pending cases have been reduced from 2,200+ cases in Jan 2023 to less than 800 cases as of Aug 1, 2026.
Ultimately, it's important to get to a just resolution with All of the facts while being as timely in concluding the case. My court process has delivered just, prompt and affordable resolutions.
I'll continue to follow the Constitution, setting bonds that take into account the nature of the case, criminal history, ability to pay and immigration status as required by law. At the same time, I'll continue to protect the community by leveraging tools such as GPS monitoring, drug testing, house arrest, curfew, no contact orders, etc. as conditions of bond.
Repeat offenders will get more stringent conditions, including a higher bond amount.
Per the law, Judges are not allowed to set a NO bond without specific actions taken by the state, including presenting proper evidence.
As such, when the State holds a hearing and presents evidence as required by the Constitution, I have held, and will continue to hold, defendants at NO bond.
