I am a product of Cy-Fair public schools, a University of Houston graduate, small business owner, and former Chief of Staff to State Representative Jon Rosenthal. In that role, I helped manage legislative priorities, constituent services, and district operations, giving me firsthand experience with how state government affects families and communities. As the first Black and youngest Chair of the Harris County Democratic Party, I led a large countywide organization and built coalitions across diverse communities. I also helped lead the successful effort to elect a pro-public education majority to the Cy-Fair ISD board. I bring experience, collaboration, sound judgment, and a commitment to effective, responsive public service.
I would work to expand Medicaid, strengthen community health centers, and increase funding for mental health and substance use services so more Texans can get care before a crisis. I would also support measures that lower prescription drug costs, expand telehealth, and improve maternal and preventive care. In HD 135, I would partner with local providers, schools, and nonprofits to connect uninsured families with available services. Healthcare should be affordable, accessible, and close to home, regardless of income, ZIP code, or insurance status.
I would prioritize fully funding our public schools by increasing the basic allotment, tying funding to inflation, fully funding special education, and investing in educator pay and classroom resources. I opposed diverting public dollars to voucher programs, but now that Texas has created an ESA program, every taxpayer dollar must be accountable. I would support regular audits, public reporting of expenditures and outcomes, strong anti-fraud protections, and clear standards for participating providers. Public schools are accountable to taxpayers, and any private entity receiving public funds should be held to meaningful standards as well.
Two of the most pressing issues in HD 135 are adequately funding our public schools and strengthening flood-control and infrastructure systems. I would support increasing the basic allotment, tying it to inflation, fully funding special education, and fighting for the state to reimburse Cy-Fair ISD for a portion of the revenue it loses through its 20% local optional homestead exemption, including pursuing the 50% adjustment allowed under state law. I would also fight for increased state investment in drainage, detention, and flood-mitigation projects. I would measure progress by increased per-student funding, closing Cy-Fair ISD’s funding gap, and moving more flood-control projects from planning to construction.
With 30 years of dedicated public service and a proven track record of managing multi-million dollar budgets, I bring the rare combination of fiscal discipline and entrepreneurial grit needed to deliver real results. Having also built a successful private practice from the ground up, I understand firsthand how to drive economic growth, streamline operations, and stay strictly accountable to the people. My career has been defined by transparency, efficiency, and an unwavering commitment to our community, proving that strong public leadership and sharp business acumen must work hand in hand to solve our toughest challenges.
Allowing insurance companies to sell health plans across state lines to foster competition is a foundational pillar of free-market healthcare reform. By lifting these cross-state regulatory barriers, a national competitive marketplace would emerge, giving individuals the freedom to purchase cheaper, more flexible plans tailored to their specific needs. This free-market approach relies on consumer choice and corporate competition—rather than top-down government mandates and subsidies—to naturally lower health insurance premiums across the country.
School funding relies on fiscal responsibility, parental rights, and local governance rather than throwing endless taxpayer money at a broken system. Pouring more cash into bloated school bureaucracies has failed to improve academic outcomes; we must instead fund students, not systems, by allowing educational dollars to follow children to the school of their parents' choice. By slashing administrative waste, capping property taxes, and returning budget decisions to local communities, we protect taxpayers while focusing resources where they matter most: in the classroom with high-quality teachers.
Securing our community requires a bold commitment to making life affordable, protecting our neighborhoods, and enforcing the rule of law at every level. Families are being squeezed out of their own homes by skyrocketing costs, making historic property tax relief an absolute necessity to provide immediate financial breathing room. True affordability is impossible without safety, which is why we must fully fund our police departments to ensure they have the training, technology, and personnel required to combat rising crime effectively.
