Green Township Trustees are responsible for the legislative and administrative functions of the township, including managing township roads, providing fire and police protection, operating cemeteries and parks, and overseeing zoning. They also handle township finances, budget adoption, record-keeping, and ensuring the general welfare of the community through responsive and high-quality services.Key Responsibilities:Roads and Infrastructure: Maintain and repair township roads, which includes snow removal and weed control. They also oversee other surface waters like ditches and drains.Public Safety: Provide police and fire/EMS protection by contracting with neighboring jurisdictions, employing officers, or creating local districts.Parks and Recreation: Establish and manage township parks.Cemeteries: Maintain township cemeteries, sell plots, and manage service fees.Zoning: Oversee and regulate township zoning.Finance and Budget: Adopt the township budget, manage funds, and audit expenses.Government Operations: Conduct bi-monthly meetings, provide public notices, and keep accurate records of all township activities.General Welfare: Make resolutions and take action to provide for the general welfare of the township and its residents.How They Operate:Board Structure: The township is governed by a three-member Board of Trustees, who serve as both the legislative and executive body.Decision-Making: Trustees make decisions as a board, not as individuals.Elective Position: The trustees are elected to four-year terms and are responsible for implementing the necessary measures to run the township effectively.
