The role of a school board member is to ensure the best education for all students. With decades of community service, I will listen, learn, and lead as a school board member who values all that makes LV special. I have actively served our community through 4H and FFA, Hanover American Legion, my church, and LV Schools, from bus driving to cheer coaching to volunteering at events. The timing is right for me to serve on the board now, because someone with my strengths and perspective is needed within that group.
Financial – Licking Valley has a long-standing record of fiscal responsibility, having gone decades without requesting a new levy. However, state funding is no longer guaranteed. I will advocate for our district by working with state legislators to ensure our schools receive a fair share of the state budget.

Safety – We can no longer take for granted that our children are safe in their classrooms, at school events, or on the bus. I will work closely with staff and law enforcement to identify and implement strategies that strengthen student safety. I will also study proven safety measures in other districts to bring the most effective solutions to Licking Valley.

Educational Resources – Our students succeed only when given the right tools and opportunities. I will support staff development, champion innovative programs, and help ensure every student graduates with a strong foundation to ensure success after high school.
Together with school staff, state partners, and our community, I’m committed to creating safer schools, empowering student success, and securing a strong financial future.
Licking Valley Schools is the center of our community. The staff, parents, community members, and students support one another through hardships and successes. While each person is unique, there is a feeling of family. Never complacent, LV strives to bring innovative ideas to the students, providing more opportunities for success.

Community and service are two core values of LV that are of utmost importance. LV has always been filled with the people I love, and I feel compelled to help in this way now because I understand what it takes to be a great board member. I’m very inspired by my father-in-law, Ralph Felumlee Sr.’s 24 years of service to LV, and motivated by my grandchildren’s experience in the schools today.

A board member works with the other members to ensure that the superintendent and treasurer are creating an environment that is preparing the students for the future. I believe that each candidate would do a great job, but the following is a list of my qualifications.

1) Born and raised in the district; 2) All of my children attended and graduated from Licking Valley; 3) Taught at Licking Valley H.S. for 30 years; 4) Coached both boys and girls teams at various levels; and 5) Served in the U.S. Navy as a Nuclear Components Welder.
1. Fiscal responsibility in the area of continued development of "first-class" personnel and facilities

2. Attempting to maintain that "Licking Valley community" while at the same time understanding growth is going to happen

3. Increasing the Kindergarten Readiness Scores
Not sure that I want to see anything different. I want to see the continued development of curricula and programs that prepare students for their future.
I think that parents send their children to religious schools or decide to homeschool because of strong beliefs that are not part of the public school curricula. When comparing Licking Valley with other public schools, Licking Valley LSD gains more students than it loses.

Education (30 words) Graduate of Denison University 1998 (BA in both Education and Sociology/Psychology); SRAS (Sexually Risk Avoidance Specialist) certification 2023
Current job (10 words) Abstinence Educator and Team Leader for Prevention and Outreach at Heartbeats
Work experience/qualifications (60 words) 27 years in education: substitute teacher, home educator, abstinence educator in Licking/Muskingum County schools. 4 years service as LV School Board, chair of Board Policy Committee, member of strategic planning committees (curriculum, communications, student engagement)
Local school boards represent the local voters. Per Ohio law, they oversee spending of public funds, curriculum content and both Superintendent and Treasurer. I’m the mother of 3 LV grads and 1 current LV student (a scholar-athlete who loves the arts), married to a public school teacher, serving in my church, mentoring young women, and teaching about healthy relationships in public and private schools. I’m fiscally conservative and believe children thrive in families and communities that respect the Bible, the Constitution, the rule of law, and the authority of parents. I believe good citizens are educated, hard-working, and kind neighbors. I’ve demonstrated my ability to facilitate respectful dialogue and gracefully engage in disagreements that make our school district better. In choosing our excellent new Superintendent and Treasurer, I was a vocal advocate for conservative values that protect the innocence of our children and respect the values of their parents.
At Licking Valley we are focusing on (1) excellent and age-appropriate curriculum, (2) excellent and respectful stewardship of tax-payer money, and (3) student engagement as a strategy to improve their achievement and safety.
In my second term, we will continue the fulfillment of our newly created Strategic Plan. Students, staff, parents and the entire community helped craft these priorities. I’m personally most interested in the review and alignment of curriculum across grades K-12 that is long overdue. I think we’ll improve student achievement by working with our teachers to review each subject area. I’m very pleased with the policy change that I drafted and our board approved. The policy now requires exclusion of explicit materials in libraries, classrooms and curriculum. Administration must approve any exceptions which must be both pertinent and the very best resource for a specific curriculum or course. Guaranteeing age-appropriate content for our children was a primary focus of voters in my first election. I’m committed to implementing that policy change. I’m also excited to creatively invest district time and resources for our students to get real world experiences that motivate their learning here.
Licking Valley students know they are part of a community that works very hard to offer them our very best. Our staff, facilities, learning materials, extracurriculars and atmosphere have built a reputation that we are proud of at LV. In retrospect as a former home educator for my 4 children, I can say that eventually enrolling at LV was a wise choice for each of my children. My son was the first home educated child to ever play LV school sports. As a district, we increasingly attract families and staff that want to be part of a supportive community. We welcome students from vastly different backgrounds and show them how being an LV Panther can equip them for a satisfying, productive future. Our community includes families who are making a multitude of different educational choices for their kids. LV schools belong to this community and serves the community with excellence.

The role of the school board is to hire and hold accountable the Treasurer and Superintendent who carry out the day to day operations of the district. In addition, we are to be a voice of the community sentiment and to reflect its values as we fufill our core mission which is overseeing the policies of the district. In having served 4 years on the board now, I have a great appreciation of how we oversee the policies as those policies govern the district as leaders make decisions within the frameworks.
Parent Choice, Funding and Student Engagement
I want to continue with our strategic plan, continue empowering our leaders to focus on student engagement and finding areas where it can be enhanced along with being financially prudent to ensure long term viability of our district. Our school is extremely well run so there is nothing on an agenda that needs changed but you can always improve and if we are life long learners we can always learn to be better.
Every Adult helping Every Child is our mission statement and I believe that sums up our culture where everyone is responsible for every young person that walks in our doors. Our culture is to give them a pathway to be successful and I believe you see that within our buildings as we have an amazing staff and leaders who all work for the benefit of a very special community to educate their children.
