The position of City Council President should be changed and expanded beyond just chairing meetings. The president's new role would include a seat at all of the mayor's staff meetings and the right to vote in the case of a tie in city council, thereby eliminating the current non-voting status.
Educating the public as to the actual role of the President as it is now, as described above. Currently if something were to happen to the mayor, the president has little preparation assume the mayoral office. No briefings.

I will be the independent voice for all city wards. My goal is to work with our council and the administration to facilitate growth and increase safety for our city.
While official duties of council president are limited, I will be a voice for everyone in Youngstown. I will make sure that your council representatives do the job that they were elected to do. I will make sure they answer your phone calls, respond to your emails, and listen to your concerns.
The growth and revitalization of Youngstown is contingent on the people we elect to lead us, and it is my belief that the best candidates for this are those who possess a strong business background. I feel that I exhibit this quality and I look forward the opportunity to showcase it.
The priorities that I have for our city will require open lines of communication with our council and administration. I hope to play a part in the creation of legislation and use my business management skills and experience to work with my fellow elected leaders.
I would like to include the following goals which will help Youngstown move in a positive direction, open up dialogue between residents and elected officials, and help build community trust.
-Eliminate nepotism in hiring. Create city council hiring committee. Hiring of non-cabinet positions and civil service positions above laborer shall be at the approval of the hiring committee.
-Promote mandatory community contact within the city wards, including quarterly town hall meetings.
-Act as a second line of communication for Youngstown residents. I will provide my city contact information, and make myself available if your council person does not respond to contact attempts. Contact issues will be addressed immediately prior to council meetings.
-Present for consideration the Vulnerable Neighborhood Grocery Strategy.
-Advocate for placement of new police complex on Market St. at old GE plant.
-Encourage our Economic Development Department to aggressively pursue and provide incentives for professionals such as doctors, lawyers, and financial planners to relocate and utilize vacant space in our downtown area.
-Explore possibility of moving city elections to presidential election year or midterm election year.
