As an elected board member of the ESCEO, the top two responsibilities for this office, in accordance with Ohio Revised Code, are 1) serving as the governance team for the district with other elected board members, being a positive and responsible liaison between the school district and community; and 2) employing the superintendent and treasurer and working closely with them to establish and set policy, vision and long-range goals and be accountable for the fiscal health and opportunities provided to the district’s students and families.

If elected, I will address these responsibilities as I have during decades of experience working with a variety of educational institutions throughout the state of Ohio: honestly and in person.

To lower the cost of services provided to the districts served by the Educational Service Center

To explore the ability of the Educational Service Center to administer the college credit plus program on behalf of the districts it serves
looking at the 5 year forecasts of districts served by the Educational Service Center it is alarming the rate of increases in the spending category of "purchased services". Most of these services are provided to the member districts by the educational service center. After examining employee contracts at the center I have concluded there seems to be little effort by the current governing board to control this expense. Current salaries and benefits, especially when it comes to administrative positions such as the superintendent, are in my opinion excessive. As a retail pharmacist I know that the biggest expense for virtually any organization is payroll. I would advocate vigorously for the governing board to take a much more aggressive stance when negotiating contracts and benefits.

I have 3 children all of whom in the last 6 years graduated college with stem degrees. All of them had between 45 and 60 hours of college credit earned while in high school. This saved all of them thousands of dollars in tuition and prepared them well to succeed while pursuing challenging majors. In my opinion most area school districts do a lackluster job at identifying and encouraging families whose students posses college ready abilities and aptitude to investigate the opportunities and advantages participating in the college credit plus affords them. I would like to see the educational service center develop a program that makes these families and their students aware of the programs merits

The ESC of Eastern Ohio (formerly the Mahoning County Educational Service Center) cost-effectively provides high quality, state mandated services to area school districts. My hope is that the ESC will continue to provide and expand these necessary services that continue to meet the needs of our districts. The ESC of Eastern Ohio has been a "transparent" provider of these services to our member districts with costs clearly outlined and explained to districts each year. My hope is to continue that transparency as the ESC expands and improves these services annually.
If re-elected as a governing board member of the ESC of Eastern Ohio (formerly the Mahoning County Educational Service Center) I will continue, along with my fellow board members, to manage the mission and vision of the ESC. Providing high quality services to our districts while providing those services in a cost effective and transparent manner is part of the mission and vision of the ESC of Eastern Ohio.

1) Low cost service to member school districts for contracted services, such as teaching/learning, special education, related services and assessment/

2) User friendly services to member school districts.
I will continue to advocate for low cost services and user friendly services for member services, as I have done for the last twenty years. Expanding our services to other counties will lower contracted services' costs for member school districts, by spreading out costs to a larger service area. I will encourage the educational service center administrative team to identify potential new member school districts, in an effort to maximize our resources and support more students, teachers, related staff and administrators.
