I've been self-employed most of my life so I had to self promote myself. That's what I want to do for the city is promote Nelsonville and erase some of the negativity that we have received in the last few years.
I think one of the most important responsibilities is to make the city government cohesive. I want to also make it a point to listen to the citizens of Nelsonville and what issues they might have. I will go out into the community and hold workshops with a problem and solution meeting.
I have managed large hair salons in San Antonio Texas. I also have owned hair salons in San Antonio and Abilene Texas. And of course we have household budgets that we have to manage.

The mayor needs to be the face of the community. The City of Nelsonville and the Mayor should be seen as one. With that being said, it is important for the mayor to be positive and a problem solver at all times. The role of the council is to legislate and appropriate. Nothing can replace experience. I have numerous years of experience as a city manager as well as working for the American Red Cross in various management positions. I am currently the Acting City Manager and was the City Manager twenty years ago, which gives me a unique perspective on the needs and direction the city should be taking for it’s future.
The ability to bring different parties to the table to work collaboratively for the good of the City. A good mayor needs to listen to all sides of an issue, before making a decision. It is important to understand and appreciate our past, while moving ahead for the future. Everyone in the community has a place at the table. All of us have different backgrounds, experiences, and needs. In order to move forward, we need everyone’s opinions, viewpoints and ideas, whether we agree or disagree. It is important to agree to disagree without attacking each other. That is the only way forward.
I completed the budgets for the City of Nelsonville for the years 2003 thru 2005. I applied for and received 1.1 million dollars to extend the bicycle path from Hocking College to the Rocky Boots parking lot, as well as obtaining funding for street repairs for Adams Street. I have been chairman of the finance committee for our local church for 10 plus years and have completed numerous budgets. I am currently the treasurer for a private non-profit school. My wife and I invested into two(2) businesses in Nelsonville. Those businesses operated for a combined total of 23 years. We sold both businesses and they continue to operate to this day. I am no stranger to budgeting and sound fiscal responsibility.
