My last four years in office have provided me the opportunity to advance the things I hoped to: affordable housing, equity and inclusion, and climate mitigation. Developers we approved are adhering to our inclusionary housing policy; we've been awarded grants to install heat shades in two city parks that are hotter than the more affluent places in the city; we continue to build out our electric charging stations; and we recruit and support climate champions throughout the city to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. I am the best candidate to continue with these efforts, as learning the ropes for being effective in city government is important, both for codifying priorities and for being fiscally responsible with our taxpayers money.
1. Supporting our community through fiscal responsibility as most ward 3 residents will feel the crunch from actions underway federally 2. Providing more affordable housing through our light rail developments and via protecting naturally occurring affordable housing (NOAH) 3. Working with our sustainability staff and our Environment and Sustainability Advisory Commission to make current our Climate Action Plan goals and optimize results
I make myself available to any Ward 3 resident who reaches out to me -- often meeting in person, but also via phone and email. I engage with board & commission residents by sporadically attending their meetings, approving their annual plans and monitoring meeting minutes. I thoroughly enjoy attending community events across the entire ward with so many rich opportunities at STEP, the Coven, Bickham Court, ECFE and other places. I also encourage neighborhood group involvement.
City staff and the City Manager are firmly committed to being transparent to our constituents and to the council. The city budget is a moral document, which I take very seriously. Leveraging every tax dollar as far as possible is important, and I am supportive of the creative efforts taken to capture available funds from sources other than property tax. I work to ensure there are measurable outcomes whenever possible, to instill necessary accountability in our policies and programs.
