Biographical Information
Hi! I am Michelle Lavey. A member of the Bradford Community for 30+ years. I am married tp John Lavey. I have 4 girls and a grandson. I recently retired from Bradford in July of 2025.
The role of a school board member is to make sure that the community has a voice in the educational process of the school in which they live. The voice should be led by listening to the experts that have been hired as administrators and support their decisions. This should be done by making sure that the school board member is actively staying up to date on state guidelines and being present in the school they are representings needs.
As a school board member I will address parents concerns by listening and directing them in finding the answers they are seeking. Hoping to give them an active voice to help find the answers they need from the source of their concern. As well as take concerns and if it effects the whole educational process making sure to help guide changes as directed by our administration.
The most improved issues facing our school district and many school districts is mental health and making sure to help students reach their highest potential academically. Students must feel safe at school and be able to have their social and emotional needs met or they can't focus on the academics. Then making sure to help students, families and school staff to work as a team to support our students. Knowing in the end we all want our students to be successful.
Transparency of how money is being spent and looking at the financial forecast and making decisions based on the guidance of the Treasurer of the school.
My vision for using artifical intelligence applications are not necessarily bad. I think it is a part of our society. Teaching our students how it can be used correctly is important. It should not take the place of their learning but help to support their learning. This will have to be done by teachers guiding and supervising it's use.
The skills and experience I will bring to the school board is 33 years of being in Bradford's schools. Knowing that we have come a long way but still have a long way to go. I have a strong understanding of what concerns parents, teaching staff and students have. With this knowledge I hope to make decisions based on all voices.
