While Roanoke City is a vibrant, welcoming city, as any other urban area there are challenges. When it comes to violent crime, the issue is often getting cooperation from witnesses. Continuing to provide quality, professional services to the community is one way to build the trust necessary to get that cooperation. Working closely with our law enforcement partners, building trust through communication is another. There are also "quality of life" challenges that continue to need attention, such as public intoxication, aggressive panhandling and trespassing. While this is a challenge that can't be fully solved through law enforcement action and prosecution, it is certainly something that we must be ready to tackle and address in the courts.
I have 25 years experience prosecuting complex, violent criminal cases in Roanoke City. I am presently the Chief Deputy Commonwealth's Attorney in an office of 14 attorneys. The position of top prosecutor absolutely requires someone with a great deal of experience, someone who can not only be tough and unyielding when needed, but also able to protect the rights of everyone involved in the criminal justice system. I live in this community, my children have gone to school here and I have been active in this community for many years. That, combined with my experience as a prosecutor, makes me the perfect candidate for Commonwealth's Attorney.
There is a lot to like about Roanoke City in general, as well as the neighborhood where I live (Crystal Spring.) Roanoke City is vibrant, prosperous and above all welcoming. It doesn't matter who you are or where you are from, you will be welcomed in Roanoke City and only judged by the quality of your character. The Crystal Spring neighborhood (South Roanoke) is especially close to my heart with its tree lined streets, well manicured lawns and friendly neighbors. Being the Commonwealth's Attorney for Roanoke City is something that I have long dreamed of and I am excited about the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing success of this wonderful city.
