In New York, the Town Clerk serves as a primary administrative officer, fulfilling roles as the official recordkeeper and licensing agent for state and local permits. This position also includes managing town records, preparing and recording minutes for the Town Board, administering Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) requests, and serving as the Registrar of Vital Statistics for birth and death records.
