School funding is the greatest challenge. The school board's main responsibility is to improve student achievement and engagement. To achieve this, we need to keep excellent teachers in Stafford County which requires competitive pay. It is also important that all our students be able to attend safe, welcoming, distraction-free schools. We need to grow our facilities to keep pace with our changing population while maintaining our current schools’ infrastructure. This also requires increased funding. Finally, we must arm our students with foundational knowledge that prepares them to critically assess what Artificial Intelligence produces, so they will be able to use it wisely and skillfully.
I bring eight years of prior experience serving on the school board, where I have worked collaboratively with my fellow board members and the Board of Supervisors to support academic achievement, responsible budgeting, and student well-being. As a parent of three children who graduated from Stafford County Public Schools, I bring a deep personal investment in the continued success of our schools. Professionally, I’ve spent my career as a college professor specializing in cognitive neuropsychology, which gives me a strong understanding of how students learn and develop.
I love the fact that Falmouth still has a small-town feel while being close to Washington, D.C. and Richmond. When my children were younger, we would often run into their teachers and classmates when out shopping or at the park. There is a real sense of community in Falmouth and Stafford at large. People feel comfortable reaching out to their local school board representatives and supervisors. People care about one another. I also love the Rappahannock and Potomac rivers and Stafford’s proximity to both the ocean and the mountains.
