There are many important roles. Acting as a conduit for local issues helps residents make informed decisions and succeed in their American dream. Auburn is growing and we have to be accessible and encouraging for residents to get involved in issues they are interested in. Right now, residents feel out of touch. I have already been working to inspire the current board, offering no-cost solutions. These solutions are designed, vetted and available for use immediately. As a local business owner and resident, I know that residents and businesses alike need these tools to prosper. I am deeply committed to this role in public service. Being entrusted by you will never be "just a job" to me. Allow me to step up to the plate for Auburn's future.
Property tax reform has been a topic gaining traction which could impact Auburn. Currently, residents have seen significant increases in their taxes without an increase in services. The current board should strive to analyze and plan for possible reform in order to be good stewards of revenue. Currently, the budget and revenues continue to grow and residents should have input into which services are prioritized. For example, the Fire dept. accounts for around half of the local levy millage being paid through property taxes. How do we maintain great service if residents want lower taxes? Prepared with my background in accounting & finance, and your input, I look forward to further examining and studying how our tax dollars are being spent.
I have solicited feedback from fellow residents and found that most challenges begin with the lack of transparency. Often times, residents will check a website for what they need. It is obvious that this critical tool functions poorly. It is at no cost to the tax payers to gather more feedback, present a plan and implement a better design/layout for navigation, while ensuring information is promptly available. Another community challenge is interdepartmental co-operation. Current trustees are not ensuring departments are fluid and accomplishing tasks, resulting in many examples of wasteful spending- such as lawsuits brought against us, or worse, Auburn attacking their own residents and businesses. We need to stand up to this together!
This question is the very reason why I am asking for your vote. I have identified multiple areas of communication that are in dire need of overhaul. Starting with the website- all department information, public meetings, agendas and outcomes must be posted promptly. This is the first step to giving residents the ability to even self-serve for their needs when it's convenient for them. The current board demands residents to physically come to meetings with no advanced agenda. For engagement, Facebook & YouTube are helpful tools that publicize and solicit feedback much more efficiently with just a bit more energy from the township. One suggestion from a respected local business owner said a sign up text/email function would be helpful.
