Economic challenges and uncertainty are the most important challenges facing our area. Prices are rising, jobs are in flux, and a lot of us struggle to make ends meet. As Treasurer, I don’t want us to just seize, lien, and garnish; I want us to engage, educate, and elevate our community by: bringing services and resources directly to the community via a Mobile Treasurer’s Office and community pop-ups; hosting free financial literacy workshops and establishing a Financial Empowerment Center; and modernizing the Treasurer’s Office by launching a mobile app to make payments and access resources As Treasurer, I don’t want to just count and collect our city’s money, I want to care about what our community is investing in and fortify Newport News
I bring over 14 years of experience in banking, finance, policy advocacy, and nonprofit leadership, and I’ve been a dedicated public servant in this community for nearly two decades. I’ve managed multi-million dollar budgets, made sound financial decisions, and led through times of uncertainty. During the 2008 housing crisis, I helped families restructure debt and preserve the assets they had worked so hard to build. In the midst of the pandemic, I successfully led a nonprofit through an unprecedented time for families, small businesses, and service providers alike. I’ve long been an advocate and servant leader—and I’m proud to have earned the endorsement of our current Treasurer, Marty Eubank. Marty knows firsthand the experience it takes
What I love most about Newport News is our diversity and sense of community. Our city is shaped by the military, our colleges and universities, and the industries that have created opportunity for generations. That mix brings people from every background together, making Newport News a place where cultures connect, young leadership is supported, and generations build side by side. Together, we’re embracing what our future can and will be.
