What are your priorities to address the impact on Virginia of the dramatic changes to the Federal Budget and the decrease of Virginia’s tax base due to the loss of Federal employment?

Do you support legislation allowing Virginia to adopt the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact (would ensure that every Virginia vote for President is equal to those votes from every other state and DC, while also guaranteeing that the candidate who receives the most votes nationwide wins the Presidency)?

With the passage of the federal budget and the loss of tens of thousands of federal jobs in Virginia, the impacts are already being felt, and life is harder for too many Virginia families. Tariffs, rising prices on groceries and essentials, healthcare costs, and skyrocketing housing prices have all placed Virginia’s economy in precarious circumstances. Yes, the Electoral College system has become outdated in our contemporary contexts; we should be electing a president in the same manner as we do all other offices: one person equals one vote. In the past two decades, we have seen two individuals lose the popular vote and still be elected as president. With enough compact members in the NPV, the Electoral College structure that disenfranchises voters can be effectively removed.
We must ensure that Virginia has a healthy economy with sufficient jobs that pay well and that address workforce shortages with effective education opportunities and training programs. A strong economy depends also on the availability of affordable housing, food and essentials within the reach of working families, and quality childcare. All Virginia children, regardless of zip code, should have the opportunity to attend a top notch public school from which they can graduate prepared for a good-paying job or higher education. All these schools must have well-prepared and well-supported teachers, access to modern educational technologies, and support staff such as career and college counselors, mental health professionals and subject area spe
