I grew up in libraries. My love of reading was sparked by spending days after school finding a quiet corner with a book.
I want to make sure that our libraries have the resources they need so other young people can have similar experiences.
Given that experience, my fondness for the First Amendment, and recent attacks on libraries (including a recent effort to disband the Meridian Library District), I want to do my part to protect those spaces that I love and that allowed me to be a better student and citizen.
I am an attorney who serves on similar boards already. I have the organizational skills to be sure that the Board abides by Idaho's Open Meeting Laws and creates policies that allow the employees of the district to do their jobs well.
I want to expand the connection between our libraries and the community. For example, the Friends of the Ada Community Library is an independent non-profit that helps raise funds for projects like the Summer Reading program. I want to do what I can to expand their membership.
Programs like the Lake Hazel Library's Food Bank are great ways to get people in the library so they can then become more familiar with the materials we have available to them.
Libraries are vital community spaces. They provide knowledge, a place to be between home and work, and act as a repository for history.
If we expect our citizens to be able to think critically and vote thoughtfully, we must have well-managed and well-stocked libraries.

I was approached a couple of years ago to run, but could not at that time. When I found out there was a seat open again, I decided the time was right for me.
I have always been a strong advocate for education. I have always loved reading and learning. I love being introduced to new books in my book club, especially ones I never would have picked on my own. Libraries are an inexpensive source of education for many people.
I want others, no matter what their background may be, to have a place where they can go and get education, entertainment, socializing, and other services free of charge. Libraries are for EVERYONE.
I want to promote and support the library and help it's positive outreach continue to grow in our community,
1) Love of reading (Book club for 20+ yrs)
I love books that keep you thinking long after you are done.
2) Love of education & learning:
a) Math tutor: adults & youth my entire adult life.
b) Math sub for school district since 2015: communication skills, quick thinking, flexibility, ability to understand hard concepts.
c) Scout leader: organization, planning, and working with other adults.
d) Volunteered with the library STEM outreach. It has been rewarding each time.
3) Parenting 6 kids, I used the library and it's resources to:
a) Enhance our summer learning
b) Teach a co-op preschool for 11 years
c) Listening material for road trips
4) Willingness to listen and see all sides of an issue.
5) I embrace fiscal responsibility.
1) Promote the library in the community and encourage more patrons to learn and be aware of everything our libraries have to offer.
2) Volunteer in some of the library programs and outreach activities. I feel that this will help me to get to know the library staff and it's patrons better as-well-as learning more about what each library has to offer.
3) Keep the library fiscally responsible, but at the same time helping the libraries have everything they need to support their programs.
4) Ensure that the libraries have the tools and materials they need to remain relevant in our technologically advancing world.
5) Help each library expand in their size and/or outreach into the community.
6) Advocate for the library staff and the patrons.
If I decide to do something , I will do it well. I will take my responsibilities seriously and do everything I can to promote, uplift, and aid the library staff and patrons. I love our community and I know the library plays an important role in it's growth and success.
I am a person who likes to hear all sides of an issue in order to make an informed decision. I understand that the opinions and views of others, are just as important as my own. I will follow the laws established by the Idaho Legislature.

I have valued public libraries my entire life, and have a strong desire to help provide and maintain a service that elevates and lifts people in their understanding of the world around them. I love interacting with people, young and old, and value relationships of trust. I want to do what I can in helping to protect children and teens from harmful or illegal content.
I have been involved in community service my entire adult life. Some of my service was as a volunteer art program teacher at Lake Hazel Elementary. I was a representative on the Mountain View High School women’s lacrosse board. I was a volunteer music teacher for a children’s group, and served on the planning committee for Senior Night at Mountain View High School. I received a Bachelor of Science and Education Degree from Boise State. My experience as a mother of five children as well as my education and time in the public schools as a teacher has given me experiential knowledge invaluable for a trustee. I work well with others in problem solving and believe in counseling together to find solutions to challenges and problems.
I am fully committed to continuing the mission of the Ada Community Library to be the very best library it can be for its thousands of patrons. I plan to use Idaho law to make decisions to keep children and teens safe. I will be fiscally responsible while working on budgeting issues. I will listen to the public, our stakeholders, and try to represent them as a member of the board. I look forward to being more formally involved in decision making in the community that I love and grew up in.
I was 9 years old when the Ada Free Library District was formed and lived about 2 miles from the new Library on Victory Road. It was really exciting having a new Library to go to so close to home. I also remember bowling at Lake Hazel Lanes before the Library branch was added there. I attended Borah High school, and then Boise State. I've been married for 28 years and we have 5 children and 2 grandchildren. I love the community we grew up in and have lived in now for nearly 50 years. I look forward to serving my community on the Library board and feel very connected to this valley and the people who make it such a great community. I want to maintain the strong family values that helped shape my character growing up here.

Library staff encouraged me to run for this office. I love the library and spend a lot of time there. My children have grown up participating in library programs. We've donated to the Friends of the Library, volunteered for their World Music Celebration, been featured in their library card drive advertisements. I was invited to contribute to the Little Book of Big Stories last year. We are there three days a week and I want to see the library continue their valuable role in our community.
I have read the relevant statutes and enrolled in the library Trustee Certification Course. My professional background includes significant experience on work groups and committees, along with ten years of government service. I currently work in healthcare, a very litigious field, and my experience can help protect the library from liability. I am an involved member of my community with a strong interest in libraries and responsible government.
I will do everything in my power to mitigate anti-library actions like HB 710, which resulted in the Donnelly library closing its doors to children, and the current federal funding cuts, which ended programs for librarian training and books for children with visual impairments. I will advocate with our state legislature to protect libraries. I will use every influence I have to protect library finding.
I want children to be safe in the library. Materials should be shelved and labeled appropriately according to their target age groups. I want the library to be a comfortable, welcoming space for everyone and to have material available to represent everyone in the community. I will never use my personal cultural or religious values to remove material from the library that another member of the community would benefit from.
