City Council is the legislative body for the city it serves. Legislators make the laws. Among the responsibilities of a City Council Member is to vote on ordinances and resolutions, appropriate (set aside or earmark funds), borrow money, oversee city services and operations, regulate businesses, licensing, and other duties necessary for the smooth operation and financial well-being of the city. The Council approves the annual budget and determines how much each department and program receive. City Council also enacts tax levies, oversees planning and zoning, manages water, sewer, road construction, repair and maintenance. Most importantly is the duty and responsibility to advocate for the best interest of their constituents and the city.
Consistent involvement in projects, initiatives, long-running strategy sessions, planning committees, and civic engagement groups has led to becoming a highly informed citizen. Acquired knowledge allows me to purposefully interact with elected officials, local and state department heads, and decision makers that play a role in Lorain’s future. Upon returning to Lorain in 2016 I resolved to play a significant role in lifting, rejuvenating, and reimagining Lorain at its highest potential. I serve on five boards including the Comm. Foundation of Lorain Co. Those experiences have taught me how best to accomplish goals in the name of the greater good. I am a talented public speaker, detailed researcher, and vocal advocate for the voiceless.
