As a current member of the Weaverville Town Council, I have focused on developing our Strategic Plan for the next 3 years. In addition, I have engaged with residents to understand and resolve issues regarding housing and managed growth. My professional experience in problem solving has taught me the importance of bringing people together, with their different skills and expertise, to solve complex problems. Running a business is difficult, but running a Town is like running 7 businesses simultaneously. I have the skills to bring people and resources together to solve complicated problems.
1) Managing Growth with a Focus on the New Hospital and its impact on existing infrastructure 2) The increasing Affordable Housing Demands 3) Transparency and Accountability in measurable ways
My plan is to take advantage of the interests of Town Council members and having them engage and report on the Objectives and Status of their selected areas of interest and have then report to the Council. This is to increase the broader awareness of Town Services focused on Strengths and Perceived weaknesses. I want our Town to be Proactive, rather than Reactive, and to make the Town work with a sense of urgency. Simply put, I will be engaged with these efforts and will work through the Town Manager to manage this effort.
This is an election that will result in 3 new additions to our Town Council, plus having a new Mayor. We will have a short runway to get everyone up to speed, and it will be important to have a Council that is aware of the past, and can move ahead on the existing issues while being prepared for the unexpected. We need to operate with continuity with an eye on the future. The word Resilience has been mentioned, and I plan to work with surrounding Mayors and Councils to work together to make our Towns more Resilient.

My previous experience on Council, my home (of 20 years) and business (of 62 years) being Weaverville based, my wife being a lifelong Weavervillian. My wife and I, and her family, own 60+ acres and 5 homes within the town limits, so we have true stake in the area.

My willingness to do the “homework” and get all the information needed to make fact-based voting decisions.

My willingness to speak to common sense and what is best for the town, the townspeople, the land of the town and the future of the town - not worrying about being liked or popular.
Plan and manage growth of the area to include affordable housing.

Balance the budget without raising the effective tax rate for the town citizens.

Support the town staff, especially the police and fire departments.
By working together with town council and the staff to prioritize these issues and finding common ground to accomplish them.
The town needs a mayor who is committed to a balanced budget, controlled growth, and affordable housing. I was asked by multiple leaders in the town to consider it, since there was only one person with their name in the hat for mayor.
