I am from McDowell, born and raised here my whole life. I spent years being a teacher at Eastfield Global Magnet School and McDowell Tech where I developed a relationship to this community, through my students and their parents. I understand and sympathize with their concerns, and I want to see them addressed. For years the community in which I live has not had representation on City Council, I am looking to change that. It's time our local leaders looked out for the residents of this community, those who spend their lives here, rather than their 'good ole boys club'.
1. Aging infrastructure within the city, especially our water systems.
2. Substance abuse and addressing the needs of those unhoused in our community.
3. Addressing broken promises of the past from local government.
Organize efforts to find grant money for fixing our aging water systems, so has not to put the cost on our residents. As well as identify allies in other local governments in similar issues across the state in making this an issue for state and federal government, forcing them to stand up.
Many of our rural communities have to rely on grant funding and federal aid. With our current administration gutting these programs it is important to understand how this affects our community's capabilities.
