As a healthcare project manager, I worked with community organizations, business interests, and individuals to improve patient access to food, housing, and health care. As an attorney, I work with people to figure out every day legal issues and plan the best way forward. As a board member for David Douglas School District, I have been able to listen to the many voices in our district and support policies to make safe and welcoming spaces our students, teachers, and families.
Our district strives to be aligned with federal and state education policies. David Douglas School District values student safety and legal rights. Our district works closely with the state and school board association leaders to meet the requirements of the law and protect student rights and quality of education.
The most urgent issues are budget deficit and school safety. The David Douglas School Board is tasked with approving the budget. In years with a budget deficit, it becomes even more critical to look closely at the actions taken to balance the budget, make choices about what our district will lose or change, and do our best to plan forward to avoid continued budget deficit. Schools need to feel safe throughout our district. By maintaining inclusive policies that stand for the rights of students and their families, our district helps keep schools a safe place for all.
