The City of Laurinburg uses the Council-Manager form of government based on State law. The elected Council hires the Manager to run the day-to-day operations of the City. Elections for Mayor and Councilmembers are non-partisan and are held in November of odd-numbered years.The Mayor is elected at-large for a four-year term by the qualified voters of the entire City.The City Council is composed of a Mayor and five Councilmembers. - Two (2) City Council members must reside in and are elected from District 1 for staggered four-year terms - Two (2) City Council members must reside in and are elected from District 2 for staggered four-year terms - One (1) City Council member is elected from the City at-large for staggered four-year terms.

To strengthen retail recruitment, expand the city's industrial recruitment through their industrial park to provide more jobs & use the industrial property tax dollars to decrease the city's residential property tax rate; address the city's infrastructure needs to improve storm drainage to reduce & eliminate the flooding in the city; purchase more land & build wells to continue to provide clean water for our citizens; install more tsunami cameras to deter crime; provide a recreational swimming pool. Supported FCC expansion to create jobs within the city & county; lowered residential utility bills by 7% on 11/17/2015 & 4.3% on 6/20/2017, totaling 11.3%; eliminated the fuel adjustment charge on monthly bills which lowered the utility bills by
