After serving on the Stallings Planning Board for the last year, I wanted to take the next step and join town council to do as much good as I could for the town. I enjoy helping others, working collaboratively, and I know that my deep curiosity about how things work will be an asset to the community. The work of any town council is vital because it impacts the day-to-day lives of the residents of the town, like infrastructure upkeep and repair, parks and recreation, and the yearly budget, among other things.
1)The next step Stallings can take is to develop a vibrant town center. The town owns the building at 2725 Old Monroe road, next to town hall, and attracting an anchor tenant there to bring people to the town center — not just to drive through, but to stay — will be a great step.
2) As properties are developed or re-zoned along the town center corridor (the north side of Stallings Rd. to Industrial Dr. and the area immediately west of Old Monroe Road) to have them adopt the streetscape plan that is more visually pleasing and pedestrian friendly.
3) I’d like to continue to work with the county on the matter of sewer capacity to allow approved projects in Stallings to proceed and add more residential capacity to our community.
I will work with the mayor, town staff, and my fellow council members to continue to seek out a tenant for that property with the hopes of attracting a business that provides a gathering place with great utility and enjoyment for the town.
-I will work to find solutions to the questions or concerns that our residents bring to the council. Certainly this job does not always deliver an outcome that pleases all of the people all of the time, but with a thoughtful approach that shows how our processes work, it’s my hope to help residents understand how the council makes the decisions that it does. Understandably, folks have lives to lead, children to raise, family members to care for; it’s not reasonable to expect every person to keep up with each zoning change or text amendment that the council hears. But,I believe with good communication we can bring what’s happening with council to people in real time, allowing for a more collaborative process for all.
