Position/philosophy statement
Growth has outpaced transportation infrastructure and negatively impacted the quality of life of current residents. We need to put residents needs at the forefront in zoning and budget decisions.

Competence and capabilities born from extensive experience in public service (33+ years) and exceptional training and education. Commitment to serve the Ward and the Town given the freedom from apparent conflicts of interest (I have no financial engagements with developers or their preferred lenders), as well as an ability to dedicate time that is not encumbered by other full-time work. Dedication to transparency and integrity. Having worked at the federal and state levels as well as in a Fortune 50 company and being a small business owner, in complex hostile environments in the military and even in higher education as a university professor, I can bring a unique perspective to an already talented board of commissioners.
Development/growth, transportation infrastructure, stability in town workforce. The first two topics are correlated. We continue to build and develop far ahead of the available transportation infrastructure. Specifically in Ward 4, we have a "clogged artery" in Highway 150 and growth seems to continue unabated. I am told we have a long pipeline of development of areas that are already zoned and slated for housing and business. I don't understand any votes to rezone to create even more development when the current growth is creating such problems for existing residents/voters/taxpayers. We need to work to have transportation infrastructure "catch up", rather than consistently lag development. It is what citizens want, need and deserve.
With a perception from voters in Ward 4 that growth is creating quality of life issues, I will need to more fully assess the development/growth environment as it stands, history and projected future. With that more complete understanding, I will go to work in relationships with fellow commissioners in seeing what can be done, to include being more selective in annexation and rezoning, putting conditions on rezoning that serve the public interest, and stabilizing the planning and development function within the town staff, which, like much of the town staff, has been facing turnover issues. Lastly, given how tied development is with transportation infrastructure, I will continue work on transportation issues at local and state levels.
I am ready to serve at the local level after having served my state for 15 years and country for more than 33 years. The citizens of the Town of Mooresville and residents of Ward 4 deserve a commissioner that is capable, committed, transparent, accessible and free of apparent conflicts of interest. I have been listening to voters in a grassroots door to door campaign and have identified a number of ways that they can be better served. One simple way to serve their interests not already discussed in other sections is the relative lack of public parks and recreation resources in Ward 4. In discussion with previous town planners, there have been multiple opportunities to develop parks and recreation resources, to include Lake Norman access points, but these opportunities have been discarded with the justification that Ward 4 residents already have recreation amenities and lake access through their HOAs and subdivisions. That is simply a disservice to our Ward residents and the whole town.
