The City of Statesville operates under the council-manager form of government. The City Council acts as the legislative body in establishing policy and law and the City Manager handles the day-to-day management of the City organization. The Mayor and City Council serve part-time. Statesville s City Council is made up of the mayor, six (6) ward-specific seats, and two (2) at-large seats. The Mayor serves as the presiding officer at city council meetings and as the official head of the city for ceremonial purposes. The Mayor and the two at-large Council seats are elected at-large (citywide) in non-partisan elections for staggered four-year terms. The six City Council ward seats are elected in non-partisan elections by ward for staggered four-year terms. Ward Commissioners must reside in the ward they represent.
