For the last 30 years, I helped to build and raise millions of dollars for nonprofits and universities around the country, to support educational opportunities for children and young adults. As a nonprofit consultant, I have worked with CEO's and senior level executives from Fortune 500 companies to build organization boards, recruit talent and fundraise for good causes. I am well versed in public and private partnerships; acquired federal and private funds through grants; and have managed multi-million dollar budgets and led teams across 13 states. I have a vision suited for the times and my service has prepared me to lead our city in this critical moment.
My campaign prioritizes the needs of working class people. First, I believe accessible housing regardless of income is key to insure that we do not overlook the generations of people that built the city. We can both build new homes and revitalize the neighborhoods to insure everyone's housing needs are met. As we invite businesses into the city, we must entice businesses that actually hire locally, offer a living wage and are willing to invest in our city's residents. In order for us to meet the demand of our rapidly growing population, we must invest in longterm infrastructure solutions. This means looking at alternative energy, widening roads and creating more accommodating spaces for commerce and recreation beyond downtown.
I believe there are short term and longterm strategies needed to address housing accessibility. In the short term, I will work with local nonprofits, the faith community and other groups that can help to reduce our unhoused population; renovate/revitalize distressed homes; increase the city's Emergency fund to prevent evictions; and prospect developers for low/moderate income homes. In the long term, we will require planning and zoning to implement more mixed use development for commercial and residential properties for modestly priced rental and ownership opportunities.
I am asking that we reimagine Kannapolis. As an unaffiliated candidate, I believe it is vital that every election offers voters real options. In our 40 year history as an incorporated city, our municipal elections have not offered our city much in the way of diversity of thought, political philosophy or ideas. I am running because I believe we deserve leadership that is progressive, has a vision beyond today and will be accountable, accessible and committed to long term positive change. I invite you to vote for working class people; vote for genuinely new leadership, a new vision and a city with a bold new identity. Let's reimagine Kannapolis together!
