A retired law enforcement veteran and community advocate, Eddie Marlowe, has launched a bid to become Mayor of Long View in the upcoming 2025 municipal election. A life-long native of the Long View and Hildebran communities, Marlowe served as a Sergeant for Long View’s Police Department and worked in community outreach before he retired in 2024. He served the public twenty-five years. Still involved in his hometown after the conclusion of his professional career, Marlowe says it is time for change in his town. Marlowe is a leader in his free time as well, volunteering on numerous organizations’ boards or serving in a direct human service role.

I will reach out to Western Piedmont Council of Government, Greenway Public Transportation, and also see if there are any federal, state, or local grants and any other sources of funding available to help offset the cost.
My other objectives are to enhance infrastructure and town services, grow representation and public engagement, and support programs for veterans, seniors, and youth.
Position/philosophy statement “My philosophy as Mayor is simple: lead with integrity, listen to the people, and put the community first. Every decision I make is guided by the goal of making Long View a stronger, safer, and more connected place for all residents.”

As a two-term Mayor, I bring proven leadership, fiscal responsibility, and a record of getting results. I’ve started programs that serve our seniors, built partnerships with schools and businesses, and secured resources to strengthen our town. My skills in communication, collaboration, and problem-solving ensure that every decision puts Long View residents first.
As Mayor, my commitments remain clear. First, I will continue strengthening community programs that improve quality of life, from supporting seniors to creating opportunities for families and youth. Second, I will keep building partnerships with schools, businesses, and community leaders to provide resources, enhance safety, and invest in our children’s future. Third, I will ensure responsible growth and fiscal stewardship by protecting taxpayer dollars, pursuing grants, and making decisions that serve the best interests of every Long View resident. My focus is always on keeping our town strong, connected, and moving forward.
Once in office, I will expand programs that bring people together and meet real needs. This includes strengthening the Seniors Day Out Program, creating more opportunities for youth engagement, and supporting family-focused activities that build community pride. I will also continue listening to residents to identify new services that improve everyday life in Long View.
It has been an honor to serve as Mayor of Long View, and I am committed to continuing the work of building a community where every resident feels valued. My focus will remain on transparency, accountability, and listening to the people I serve. I believe our town’s best days are ahead, and with strong leadership, responsible planning, and a spirit of cooperation, we can ensure Long View continues to grow while preserving the close-knit community we all call home.
