TOWN OF MORRISVILLE TOWN COUNCIL DISTRICT 02
The Town of Morrisville has a governing body consisting of a mayor and six (6) Councilors. This governing body oversees the general government and administration of the affairs of the Town. The Council members are elected at-large in non-partisan elections to staggered four (4) year terms through a general election. All Council members are elected by and represent all citizens - not just the district they live in.In accordance with Section 9.1 of the Town Code of Ordinances, the Town is divided into four geographical residency districts: - The Mayor and two at-large seats may live anywhere in Morrisville town limits.- Four Council districts - Candidates must reside in the district they are elected to represent. However, Town residents will vote for one candidate in each race regardless of what district they live in.The Councilors are a policy-setting body that is charged with establishing local regulations that ensure the quality-of-life expectations of the Town s citizenry are met. General duties of the Morrisville Council Members include:- Establishing policies and programs for the effective delivery of Town services.- Approving the annual financial plan and budget and setting the property tax rate and all user fees; and- Providing all ordinances, rules, and regulations for the welfare of the Town.In addition to its general duties, Morrisville Town Council members perform numerous ceremonial responsibilities and serve as liaisons to many organizations, including Town of Morrisville government groups and organizations outside Town government.For additional information on Morrisville election districts, go to https://www.morrisvillenc.gov/government/electoral-residency-district-maps
