The Town of Stoneville is governed by an elected Mayor and five-member Council. The town operates under the Council-Manager form of government. Council members are elected at-large in non-partisan elections for staggered four-year terms.The Mayor is elected at-large in non-partisan elections for a two-year term.The Mayor is recognized as the official head of the governing board for ceremonial purposes and for the service of civil process (civil law related). Mayors are specifically responsible for:- Presiding over Council/Board meetingsBreaking a tie vote in the Council/Board if the mayor is elected directly by the electorate. - Filing revised maps of annexed property and a copy of the certified ordinance with the county office of the register of deeds and the Secretary of State- Any other specific duties conferred by the local city, town or village charter.
