The Town of Kernersville operates under a Council/Manager form of government. The Mayor presides over meetings of the Board of Aldermen and votes only if there is a tie. Additionally, the Mayor issues proclamations and serves as the public face of the government of the Town.The Mayor and all five Council Members are elected at-large in partisan elections for two-year terms. Elections are held in odd-numbered years for the Mayor and the five person Board of Aldermen. There are no restrictions limiting how long an individual may serve the town.
