In addition to having served 12 years as a Hillsborough Commissioner, I bring experience serving and/or leading Orange County Partnership to End Homelessness, Local Government Affordable Housing Collaborative, Community Home Trust Board (past), Local/State Regional Councils of Government, Orange County Historical Museum, Orange County Local Reentry Council, Orange County Economic Development Commission (past), Hillsborough Tourism Board and Tourism Development Board (past), Solid Waste Advisory Group (past), Hillsborough Heights and Fairview Community Watch, NC Women in Municipal Government, and NC League of Municipalities. I also am a Leadership Triangle Goodmon Fellow and School of Government Advanced Leadership Corps graduate.
My three top issues share equal priority: Sustainable infrastructure, fiscal resiliency and sustainability, and attainable affordable housing. Our Town faces expensive infrastructure needs approaching over $60M between utilities and general funds and slim debt ratios that require continued attentiveness. For fiscal sustainability, we need strong commercial development. I will continue to advocate for commercial growth that provides good jobs and supports the community. At the same time, i will continue my long advocacy for permanently affordable housing and missing middle housing so that Hillsborough can continue to be home for everyone, especially our creatives, entrepreneurs, teachers, nurses, first responders, and those who serve.
We can grow up, out, or not at all. I will continue to evaluate requests for new and re-development against the principles embedded in our Comprehensive Sustainability Plan. Density is the most climate-friendly and cost-effective growth, and we still need more permanently affordable housing. I will continue to fight to attract and retain good commercial development. I am eager to attract commercial developers to finally build out Waterstone, Oakdale, and the commercial areas of Collins Ridge and will continue to advocate for vertical mixed use in those areas. The federal implosion and state inaction is leaving Towns like Hillsborough vulnerable. We cannot tax our way clear; thus, I also will amplify my call for pubic/private partnerships a
One of the most meaningful aspects of Town government is civility and respect. I am proud to serve with fellow electeds who, like me, respect one another, who understand and practice agreeing to disagree amicably, who share camaraderie after a split vote, and who do the best to make government work effectively for everyone, especially the most vulnerable.
