The City of Mebane operates with a City Council and City Manager form of government. The City Council includes the Mayor and five Council Members who are elected at-large in non-partisan elections by citizens of Mebane for staggered four-year terms in odd-numbered year elections. The Council is the governing board of the town and is responsible for the government and general management including:- scheduling regular public meetings, - establishing the budget, - imposing taxes and borrowing funds, - establishing local ordinances, land annexations, and - representing the community to other levels of government.
