Position/philosophy statement To be a voice for the citizens and a contact point for assistance of Town services if needed.
Current Occupation Retired
I have a great knowledge of the town of Kill Devil Hills having served on the Planning board in 1987, commissioner and Mayor and now as a second round of commissioner since 2017. I feel as if I have a good rapport with the citizens and understand the different tools that the town has to help guide and shape Its progress.
1. Increased recreational facilities, sound access where possible and feasible. 2. Preservation of open spaces and natural areas for parks and nature trails. 3. Clean water. It is vital to our economy and our citizen enjoyment to be able to have clean water available with plenty of beach access and sound access.
By updating the towns, recreational facilities, plan having citizen input and involvement in decisions. I was very pleased with the outcome of the West side recreational group and the recommendations that came from that committee, which I was fortunate enough to be able to chair.
Yet we need to do more. We need to have some trail heads from the Baum Tract to Nags Head Woods, benefitting both KDH and the Conservancy.
Position/philosophy statement Candidate for common sense, respect, and a strong sense of community. After all, we are friends, family, and neighbors here.

I was originally appointed to the West Side Recreation Group in 2019, went on to serve on the Town’s Planning Board, Historic Landmarks Commission, and as an alternate on the Zoning Board of Adjustment. I was appointed to the Board of Commissioners in March 2024, filling former Commissioner, now Mayor Windley’s seat. I have the skills from experience with Zoning/Planning, Public Safety Services, and Administration needed to continue my position in serving our People and the Town.
I think that my top three issues for the town are relatively the same three issues that most people in our community and even in our country are facing. Finding new ways to continue to explore alleviating our affordable housing problems, continuing to responsibly find balance with development on our oceanfront, and responsibly improving our infrastructure to include items such as cell phone service. Particularly as it pertains to emergency services.
Kill Devil Hills has been ahead of the curve on new and different ideas for affordable housing. In addition to those ideas that we have already implemented and expanded upon, we look forward to working closely with the Dare County Housing Task Force, as we have since its inception, as it transitions to a non-profit organization. Together, we can continue to find ways to alleviate this problem while keeping in mind our current residents.
I have always thought that local government is the closest form to the original intent of a representative body; these aren’t strangers, these are your friends, your family, your neighbors, and there is no higher honor than being able to serve to represent so many special people. I would very much appreciate your vote on Election Day.
