I am a "family friendly" Business owner in Holly Ridge and provide a safe environment for people of all ages. I am very active within with the community. I put on the 75th Anniversary of Camp Davis festival in 2015 that brought 3000 people to our town. I was the Chairperson of the 1st Bee City Committee and Bee City Festival in 2024. I am a NC General Contractor.I hold a Federal Firearm License. I have written an opinion piece in our local newspapers for 15 years called"Topsail Gun Gal" and write about and address several local issues. I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Science and majored in Criminal Justice. I have been fortunate to have traveled to many areas around the world and I cherish Holly Ridge and the community.
1. We need to drastically slow down all new construction of developments. We are in desperate need of better infrastructure, including water pressure.
2. We need to make sure the right people are working in the right positions in town hall and for the town. Efficiency is key to the smooth operation of any entity, and well trained, qualified employees will make everything run smoother and will offer more to the community.
3. Getting our website up and running asap to match those of neighboring communities. Live and real time meetings should be viewable anytime, including planning board meetings. Minutes need to be available 45 days after any meeting and voting records of all council members should be available.
I will work with council to consider putting a moratorium in place. I will also request that all sub division applications are presented to the school board(s) for consideration regarding capacity. We need to have a real employee evaluation and consider either replacement or additional training as needed. Unfortunately our town currently does not have a reputation for being easy to work with or consistent in some areas. That needs to change. The website is a decade overdue. Allocating $300,000 for what we have is unacceptable. We don't have functioning internet or phones in our community center. We don't even have caller ID in the town hall. This has to be updated promptly.
As a local business owner, builder, and citizen in the area, I know for a fact that we can make things better and more "user friendly" for our community. Unfortunately, it looks like we have been stuck in a rut for the last few decades. It is time for change and that includes keeping up with our neighbors and offering great events for our citizens. Having council members that have been on the board for 20, 30 and even 50 years does not lead to new ideas and modernization. We are a tiny town and we deserve great things for the citizens!
