Position/philosophy statement I’m not a career politician. I’m a neighbor, a mother, a grandmother, a writer, a business owner, and a volunteer. I listen. I act. I show up. And I believe our best days are still ahead.

From founding the first battered women’s shelter in Anniston, Alabama to leading civic groups like the Pine Knoll Shores Women’s Club and serving as Youth Minister of St. Francis By the Sea Episcopal Church and as President of the Women’s Golf Association, I have always believed that strong communities are built through compassion, engagement, and hard work.

As a new member of the team, I will continue to ask questions, study and listen carefully, I will take my time before acting and listen to the other commissioners, the mayor, the staff and especially the citizens as I try to decide what is the best way to address each issue for the best for our town.
Pine Knoll Shores is more than a town. It’s a vision—one of safety, health, beauty, and shared purpose. I believe in that vision. I’ve lived it. I’ve supported it. And now I want to help lead it.

I am proud to be part of the Pine Knoll Shores government team. In my seven years as commissioner, I have learned volumes on successfully managing a municipality, from financial audits to road bores to fire truck requirements. I have thrived among the Pine Knoll Shores team mentality, not only among us council members but also from our town manager, department heads, chiefs and staff. In addition to the typical oversight of Pine Knoll Shores, I have provided leadership in some very atypical times: first, the continual recovery from Hurricane Florence, the COVID outbreak, confusion followed by the untimely death of our mayor, and the retirement of our town manager.
# 1 Spend PKS citizens' dollars responsible. # 2 Prioritize pedestrian safety. PKS has active citizens and it is a priority that the town infrastructure encourages this active lifestyle in a safe but cost effective way. # 3 Continue to refine Unified Development Ordnance (UDO). The UDO was adapted last year understanding that the comprehensive document would need to be continuously reviewed and updated for clarity and simplicity.
I plan continue to be heavily involved PKS budget process by asking questions, pushing staff to prioritize needs and keeping track of the bottom line. I take my role as a steward of PKS public funds seriously and consider each financial decision's short-term and long-term implications.
I am excited for the future of Pine Knoll Shores. As a team, we must continue to be proactive and to identify and develop plans that address Pine Knoll Shores’ future issues and needs. My neighbors’ safety, health and overall well-being continue to be my number one priority. This mission includes ensuring top-notch public services, pedestrian safety and protecting the coastal natural habitat. I feel I have brought a fresh perspective and passion to the board and now have cultivated the experience. I would like to continue to serve this wonderful and unique town.

I am a candidate who loves the community and cares deeply that it not be changed from the maritime forest we all fell in love with prior to purchasing or building a home here. I am eager to become more involved in Pine Knoll Shores to give back. I believe I can bring experience of identifying needed change with engagement, team building, execution, and accomplishment, that will help to grow and strengthen our town.
1) Improve tree retention and planning for future generations. We live in a maritime forest with each tree working together with the whole to protect us from storms. 2) Improve access and safety for pedestrians and bikers with multipurpose pathways. 3) Maintain and improve beaches for residents and visitors to enjoy. Beach renourishment is vital to our community for the beauty, the attraction, and the economy.
Listen to concerns, review facts, seek council from experience, and collaborate with any and all invested for a specific answer best suiting our beach town; keeping in mind it situated in the maritime forest and and on the barrier island.
