The governing body consists of a mayor and five commissioners, all elected at-large in non-partisan elections. The mayor, who serves a four-year term and only votes in the case of a tie, is the presiding officer at meetings of the Town Board. The commissioners serve 4-year staggered terms. The Town operates under the council-manager form of government, where the Town Board serves as the legislative body and the Town Manager serves as the chief executive officer, responsible for administering the Town government.

I hold a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree in environmental health from East Carolina University. I retired from state service as director of the Division of Waste Managment, NC Department of Environmental Quality after 30 years of state service, 13 in a policymaking position serving at the Governor's pleasure through democratic and republican administrations. After retirement, I worked for 10 years in the private sector implementing a government relations program throughout the United States for Liberty Tire Recycling, retiring as Vice President of Government Relations and Environmental Affairs. My public sector and private sector experience make me uniquely qualified as a candidate for Beaufort Town Commissioner.
Smart Growth-Protecting Beaufort's identity while supporting thoughtful development and safeguarding natural resources.
Fiscal Responsibility-Conservatively managing public funds and planning for long-term infrastructure needs.
Transparent & Accountable Government-Listening to residents, businesses, and organizations to ensure decisions reflect the will of the people.
The beauty of Beaufort and its surroundings, restaurants, shopping, arts, history, music, festivals, lodging, access to Rachel Carson Reserve, Shackleford Banks, Cape lookout and beyond are well known. Growth that is compatible with the identity of Beaufort and that ensures the protection of natural resources we all enjoy, is critical to the future of our town. I will bring an understanding of local, state, and federal government programs and resources that are an asset for sound town decisions and can plan a role in assisting the town with economic and infrastructure needs. I also bring experience in the private sector providing an understanding of the critical benefit brought by the business community to the life of our town.
An additional issue and one I have had the privilege of working on is the Beaufort Town Docks. I am proud of the work of the Beaufort Waterfront Operations and Finance Committee and have enjoyed contributing to the success of the committee. I will continue to support the work of the committee. A public asset, such as the docks, should remain in the guiding hands of Beaufort and its citizens, utilizing the private sector in operations for the benefit of Beaufort.
