Our city faces key challenges that require strong leadership. Financial responsibility is crucial—taxpayers deserve transparency and accountable spending. I’ll push for open financial reporting and responsible budgeting. Economic development is also vital; we must attract businesses, support small entrepreneurs, and invest in job growth. Neighborhood revitalization is key to a thriving community—I’ll support infrastructure improvements, address blight, and promote homeownership. With accountability and transparency, we can build a stronger, more prosperous city.
I plan to work with local organizations, developers, and government agencies to expand access to affordable housing through incentives for responsible development and the rehabilitation of existing properties. Additionally, I will advocate for policies that protect tenants from unjust evictions while ensuring landlords have the support they need to maintain safe and quality housing. Addressing homelessness requires a collaborative effort that includes not just shelter, but also mental health services, job training programs, and substance abuse support.
1. Getting back our bond rating by continuing to clean up and balance our financial books. I feel that progress has been made, but much more needs to be done. 2.There is a problem still with blighted housing. Progress has been made, but through CBDG and other grant programs. We continue to need public and private cooperation. We also need enforcement of zoning codes. 3. Streets and sewers. There is always work being done, but we need to do more. Our sewers are out of date and in need of change.
1. We need to support the private sector and government agencies who are trying to bring low cost, clean desirable starter housing for low to middle income people of this city. Once again, the use of CDBG and other grants, help, but we must make it easier for private developers to bring this about. Marion needs another development like Fair Park which enable a previous generation of young couple to build a life.
