Your Experience/Qualifications 14 Years of Non Profit Board Experience, Raising 4 boys in the district.
County Coos
As a mom of four boys I have worked with many school teams for my children's success. As a non profit board member ai have dedicated many hours to work within our community.
Policy is what guides the work that is done. Research and data are important to all decisions made. It is a board members responsibility to research applicable policy, law etc.
I see a culture shift as needed for NBSD. I have recently attended strategic planning work groups where student surveys reported this also. I would like to continue working with the district to shift this. Having district wide incentives, get together, encouragements that share the language and make changes.

County Coos
Term Four Years

Some experiences and skills I have developed as a current board member that I will continue to focus on are asking hard questions about the way things are done and to make sure the voice of the parents and families are heard by interacting with the voters who elected me to represent them.
My understanding is there are lots of strings attached to funding for our schools by way of policies. I believe this is a little bit backwards and should be the school districts that tell the federal and state what is needed for policy and funding should not be tied to any specific policy or program.
Our district recently finished a major project of developing a strategic plan to be implemented as soon as it is passed in our next meeting. The current board has had a vision and plan to encourage students to reach for their own personal growth and development by setting goals to achieve a newly established graduation accomplishment to achieve their fullest potential. Students will earn a special diploma when they meet these standards. Another vision we had was to focus on student behavior in the classroom in order to keep the disruptions from interrupting the educational environment of fellow students and to encourage students with behavior issues with personal development plans to focus on their growth and goals. Enforce this plan.
