Special districts in Oregon are formed to provide specific local government needs. They are created by a vote of the people in the local area being served. Examples include people’s utility districts, library districts, water districts, fire protection districts, and more. They are governed by a board of directors, which is responsible for management and financial accountability. Special districts are empowered to levy any necessary taxes and fees to fulfill their mandate. With 10 years in communications and program coordination, I bring skills in strategic planning, budget management, and community engagement. My experience includes leading dynamic teams, managing budgets, and securing funding. As a foundation Board President and committee member for industry organizations, I've developed expertise in governance and collaborative leadership. My crisis communications and public relations work has earned industry awards. My public and private sector experience, coupled with my education in Parks Recreation & Tourism Administration, equips me to serve our community with integrity and vision.
My priorities focus on strengthening the Port's stability and growth. I will maintain financial security through responsible fiscal management and diverse revenue streams. Supporting Port administration with effective resources and policies is essential for peak operational efficiency. I'm committed to expanding economic prosperity through new tourism opportunities that showcase our coastal assets while respecting our maritime heritage. Above all, I will be a strong advocate for our vital commercial fishing industry by ensuring adequate infrastructure and promoting sustainable practices that protect both our fishing heritage and long-term economic interests.
When prioritizing the Port's various users, I would take a balanced approach that recognizes their interdependence. The commercial fishing industry forms the backbone of our port's identity and economy - their needs must be addressed as foundational priorities. Industrial users provide important economic stability and jobs, requiring reliable facilities and streamlined operations. Recreational users represent growing opportunities that enhance our community's quality of life. Rather than seeing these interests as competing, I will find synergies where improvements benefit multiple user groups while making decisions based on both immediate needs and long-term strategic priorities.
