Issue 10: Lane Public Library (Renewal)
Issue 10: Lane Public Library DistrictA renewal of a tax for the benefit of the Lane Public Library District (Counties of Butler and Preble) for the purpose of current expenses, that the county auditor estimates will collect $2,634,000 annually, at a rate not exceeding 0.75 mill for each $1 of taxable value, which amounts to $15 for each $100,000 of the county auditor’s appraised value, for a continuing period of time, commencing in 2025, first due in calendar year 2026.Explanation: This is a renewal levy. If a majority vote for the levy then the current tax of 0.75 mill will continue on properties in the Lane Public Library District. The 0.75 mill equals $15 for each $100,000 of the county auditor appraised property value. The levy will continue indefinitely.Arguments for:The renewal will protect Lane Library’s role in providing current services, resources, and access to technology and programming. The levy rate is equal to what residents are already paying for these services.Arguments against:Butler County property valuations increased over the last year, with a median increase of 37%, leading to significant increases in property taxes. Increases in property taxes tend to impact those on a fixed income the most.
