The past two years of advocating for music and performing arts facilities during our bond process showed me how much good comes from parents and community members staying engaged, and how much gets missed when they don't. My family moved to Brighton 22 years ago, before we had kids, specifically for the schools. My son graduated from BHS in 2025 and my daughter graduates in 2028. I'm running to pay back what this district has given my family, and to make sure every student, on every path, has the resources to reach their future.
I'm a Director of Revenue Management in the hotel industry, with experience across multiple university-anchored markets. That work requires reading data carefully, planning years ahead, and managing tradeoffs with limited resources, skills that translate directly to school board budgeting and facilities decisions. Beyond my career, I bring nearly two years of direct, hands-on experience in this district's bond and facilities process as Choir Booster President and leader of Music Voltron (IYKYK), plus years as Cub Master, a coach, and a theater volunteer. I understand this district from the classroom to the budget line.
BAS does a wonderful job providing a clear path to academic success for our high learners. A broad range of AP courses shows well to college admissions and prepares students for what's next.
Academic intervention is still an area of opportunity. From early reading intervention in elementary school to high schoolers who suddenly fall behind for the first time, we must recognize and respond to these situations. The district does well when parents or students raise their hand needing extra help, but students who struggle silently may not be identified until it's harder to catch up.
I'd also like to see music and art receive more support in class offerings and scheduling. These classes inspire and enrich the student experience, but are often an afterthought, saddled with large class sizes and limited flexibility.
I've spent most of the past two years serving as Choir Booster President and leading "Music Voltron," a coalition of arts boosters advocating for better music and performing arts facilities in our district's bond process. I was also Cub Master of Hilton Pack 342, an assistant youth sports coach, and have been set construction volunteer and leader for Brighton Musical and Dramatic Arts productions. Previously, I served on the board of Hartland Players community theater. My wife and I have been active in Brighton schools for over a decade, from Scouts to sports to the arts, because we believe showing up is how you make a community work.

TO ensure that our students have educational opportunity that provides them a solid foundation for a successful future, and that we focus on education, not social indoctrination.
As a coach in multiple sports in the community at both the youth, middle school and high school level, I've met students from all walks of life and see what's made them successful and what has been a hinderance. I believe the values I bring reflect the values of our community.
Our STEM program is a shining example of how to prepare our students for the future. Where I think we can improve is doing the work to AI-proof our students through curriculum improvements that team our children to leverage AI in their future education where possible, and lean into opportunities that are, for the time being, AI-resistant.
I coach Football and volunteer for the Lacrosse team. I also have over a decade as a volunteer and veteran advocacy in several organizations and have personally raised 10's of thousands of dollars in support of fighting veteran suicide.

I was elected to the Brighton School Board in 2022 and am seeking reelection to a second four-year term. I remain deeply committed to ensuring every student in our district has access to a supportive, high-quality educational experience. Serving on the board has strengthened my understanding of the important connection between responsible governance, strong schools, engaged families, and a thriving community.
I want to continue bringing a thoughtful, student-centered, and fiscally responsible perspective to board decisions. Our district must continue to invest wisely in excellent teaching and learning, well-maintained facilities, opportunities for students, and clear communication.
I am proud of the work accomplished during my current term, but there is more to do. I am seeking reelection to provide continuity, to listen carefully to our community, to ask informed questions, and to work collaboratively while keeping the focus on what matters most: helping every student succeed.
I am a proven voice for responsible leadership. During my first term on the Brighton School Board, I focused on practical improvements that strengthen academics, increase transparency, and better support students and families. I advocated for Atlas and the Curriculum Hub to give families clearer access to curriculum information and worked to ensure reading lists are shared at the start of each term. I supported consistent fundraising guidelines and twice-yearly public reporting for clubs and athletic teams.
I championed honors ELA for grades 7–8, adoption of science-of-reading-based ELA curriculum, and math realignment for grades 5–8 to ensure students are appropriately challenged. I voted for new high school offerings that expand student opportunity.
I advocated for clearer grade-posting and homework expectations, travel blackout dates before exams, expanded PE options, improved turf maintenance, enhanced K–4 meal choices, and more consistent district handbook practices.
Educational strengths for Brighton Area Schools (BAS) include exceptional staff, a wide range of high school pathways, robust extracurricular opportunities, data-informed decision-making focused on student growth, and responsible fiscal stewardship. Areas for continued improvement include class sizes, expanding project-based learning, introducing world-language opportunities in grades K–6, providing more elective options for students in grades 5–6 and improving consistency between buildings.
BAS has all the ingredients for excellence: dedicated staff, engaged families, passionate leadership, and a supportive community. With a focused, forward-thinking board, I believe Brighton Area Schools will continue to grow as a leader in public education.
In addition to serving on the Board of Education, I am an active member of the Brighton High School PTO. I chair the Senior All Night Party entertainment committee and serve as a Pack of Dogs sponsor. I am also an elected board member of the Organization of Woodland Lake and the school coordinator for the Livingston County Christmas Elf Program. Additionally, I am a member of the Livingston County Community Alliance, where I focus on substance-use education and prevention for youth, parents, and the broader community.

I've wanted to be a teacher since 2nd grade. Some teachers helped me become my best self back then, and honestly that stuck with me my whole life. I spent my first years teaching 4th and 5th grade, and then I became a principal because I wanted to serve a whole community, not just one classroom.
That's how our family works too. We were raised to believe that ifyou've got something to offer, you use it for the people around you. My wife and I chose Brighton because we love it here, and this is our chance to put that belief into action for our own town.
I've spent my whole career inside schools, so I know how they work, what teachers need, what kids need, and where systems break down. I want to bring all of that to the board table. Not because I have all the answers, but because I've lived this work and I care about getting it right for our kids.
I want to see Brighton Area Schools feel like it belongs to the whole community and thrive.
I've spent my whole career inside schools, so I understand them from the ground up. I taught 4th and 5th grade before becoming a principal, and I've led school improvement work, data analysis, and staff development at a building level for years. My doctorate focused on system-level support for kids who struggled with reading early on, so I know what it takes to build real, lasting change, not quick fixes.
I also lead with a collaborative style. I use a coaching approach with my staff, not a top-down one, because I believe people do their best work when they feel heard. Add in my years coaching youth sports and volunteering in this community, and you get someone who knows how to bring people together around a shared goal.
I'm not coming to this as an outsider with opinions about schools. I'm coming as someone who has lived this work every day and genuinely loves doing it. I am also coming from the standpoint of listening to the community and making decisions for all.
Brighton's biggest strength is our people. We have incredible teachers, admin, and support staff who show up every day for kids, and a community and parent group that's genuinely engaged and invested. That combination is rare, and it's something to protect.
We also hold high expectations for our students, and I think that matters. Kids rise to what we ask of them.
Where we can grow is in our systems. A lot of what works well here works because of specific people who carry it, not because we've built it into a repeatable process. That's a real risk. If a key person retires or moves on, we can lose good work overnight. I want to help firm up our systems so the great things happening in Brighton aren't dependent on any one person, so the work outlasts any individual and keeps building year after year.
I'm pretty rooted in Brighton outside of school too. I work with Brighton City Council on various projects, and I'm involved at The Naz Church, which has been a big part of our life here. I coach youth soccer, which lets me stay connected to kids and families outside the classroom setting.
My wife and I also stay busy giving back in smaller ways. We watch dogs for people in the community and tutor kids together, which might sound simple, but it's another way we try to show up for people around us.
All of this matters to me because I don't think you can serve a district well if you're not also showing up in the community it's part of.

Both my personal and professional background contributed to my decision to pursue a seat on the Brighton Area School Board. As a parent of two Brighton students, I feel a sense of responsibility to ensure our district continues to provide strong academic and personal support to all students in our community. Serving the community as a school board member is also well-aligned to my professional background as a university educator with expertise in School Psychology. As a school board member, I will engage in leadership focused on increasing cohesion and rigor within our already strong curriculum; prioritizing student safety and connection in our schools; and strengthening partnering between our educators, families, and community members. As an educator myself, I will advocate for decision-making informed by teacher and student voices. One of my core personal values is service to others, and I am honored by the opportunity to serve fellow Brighton residents in this capacity.
As a school board member, I will leverage my experience within education and mental health care to navigate complex district needs and uphold responsible resource allocation. I am an Associate Professor in the School Psychology program at Michigan State University. In addition to serving as a faculty member for the past 13 years, I have directed our graduate programs in School Psychology since 2021. As a program administrator, I am responsible for making data-informed decisions, ensuring our programs adapt to the changing needs of the education landscape, and fostering fiscal stability in financially challenging times. I also research and teach about how schools can optimize support for student wellness, with a particular focus on meeting the needs of students with neurodevelopmental differences within school-based programs. As a licensed psychologist, I have also provided direct mental health care to children and adolescents in private practice and community healthcare organizations.
BAS is known for academic excellence and an ability to cultivate student talent. As a BAS parent, I have found many of our educators are exceptional in forming connections with students and fostering students’ pursuit of their own personal best. This is perhaps our greatest strength given the crucial role of student connectedness in influencing long-term success. As we continue to grow as a district, we have many opportunities for continuous improvement. First, we are poised to increase continuity in the curriculum from one grade to the next, and between levels. Likewise, we should use data-informed decisions to ensure all students are engaged in learning and demonstrating academic progress. Second, district efforts to promote student wellness across all touchpoints should be evaluated and improved. Third, we should continue to expand enrichment opportunities for all students, including growing our already exceptional visual and musical arts programs and increasing language offerings.
As a mom to two active school-age children, my involvement in the community largely centers on their interests. Both of my children play for Brighton Travel Baseball, and I serve as a team photographer for my older son. Though I am a very amateur photographer, I love capturing the drama of baseball - both good and bad - from behind the lens. I also had the joy of providing support for photography and decorations for the Scranton musical (Beetlejuice Jr) last year after my son was offered a spot in the cast. Every school year, I enjoy volunteering for school events such as class parties or (my favorite) Field Day, as well as completing my volunteer “Dog Duties” as a parent of a BBFC football player. My husband and I are also small business owners within the community - we own D1 Training Brighton, a facility focused on providing sports-science based fitness training to youth and adults. Finally, given my great love for animals, I foster rescue dogs and cats waiting for adoption.
