Latah County Commissioner District 1
The three-member Board of County Commissioners is the governing body of Latah County. County Commissioner is the only office that has legislative, executive and judicial responsibilities and duties. Commissioners have the power to pass ordinances, adopt budgets, fix tax levy rates and oversee the county budget. They are charged with the duty of supervising the official conduct of all county officers as their conduct relates to public monies and revenues, as well as supervising appointed boards and committees. They also act as the Board of Equalization. The Board sits as a quasi-judicial body to hear various matters, including planning and zoning requests, property valuation protests and requests for cancellation of taxes, and indigent issues among many others. For the 2026 election, District 1 is a 4-year term.

County Commissioner District 1
Latah residents have shared some concerns with me, the most significant being the need to lower property taxes without sacrificing essential services. Another resident asked that the landscaping at the county offices be spruced up. In addition, the lack of affordable housing is a nationwide problem that also plagues Latah County. Some of these problems are bigger than others and if I am elected it is my hope that all matters and concerns brought before the commission would have been given due consideration in fair and open meetings with Latah residents in attendance. If elected I would invite you tell me how I am doing.
I learned to listen as an attorney, as a mediator, as a mother and as a victim’s rights advocate. Listening takes time and energy, and if done correctly can make the speaker feel heard and not just listened to. This type of listening can lead to questions, conversations and sometimes solutions. With regard to additional experience, as a director of admissions, I attended many meetings using Robert’s Rules throughout my career. Of course as practicing attorney, I was required to work with opposing counsel and judges to come to a resolution acceptable to all. I am comfortable in these setting and feel confident that I am prepared for this office.
As a Latah County Commissioner, the most significant challenge I expect to address is the closing of the jail in Latah County and the ensuing resolution of that change. On one hand, local attorneys have limited access to their clients which increases the cost to the County when attorneys charge the county for those trips to Lewiston. On the other hand, building a jail carries an extraordinary cost for Latah County residents. Navigating that discussion with county residents and other interested parties is a challenge that I am prepared to handle.
I would love to hear the concerns Latah County residents have about the County.
I live in Moscow but I love to drive on our county roads. I am happy to come to visit you in your neck of the woods. It’s hard to vote for someone you haven’t met. I’d like to meet you!
