State and local politics have a direct impact on people's daily lives. In Missouri, a Republican supermajority has been in place for more than two decades, and I believe they may have lost focus on serving their constituents.
I firmly believe that the taxes we pay are an essential investment as citizens. These tax funds should be reinvested to support us, leading to financially competent public schools, upgraded infrastructure, public health/safety, and recreation. Strong communities with reliable structural and social systems attract businesses that provide living wages, enabling citizens to succeed and retire with dignity. Ultimately, robust communities benefit everyone collectively and individually.
Average citizens contribute a significant percentage of their earnings in individual taxes. It is crucial that our citizens' tax contributions directly enhance their daily lives. With a 6 billion dollar surplus on hand, these funds should be reinvested back into our communities.
I try to speak with as many individuals and groups as possible in Eastern Christian County and I respect their opinions. Our citizens have significant concerns and ideas that are being ignored. I am consistently told that important concerns have been met repeatedly with silent stares, inaction and bad policies by current representatives.
We have many things in common, we value kindness, respect, compassion, family, protecting the vulnerable, freedom and community. We all want longterm, positive solutions to address the high cost of living, low wages, high rent, insurance and childcare, public education, infrastructure and utilities, public services and safety.
We won't agree on everything but nothing can stop us when we realize how much we agree on. We deserve a government that actually works for us not against us.
My approach is to continue asking, listening and truly advocating for the people who elect me to get positive results for them.
Courage.
I am a seasoned health professional and I have always valued the importance of advocacy and doing the right thing to help others. Standing up for others, demonstrating empathy, practicing patience, and upholding integrity are principles that our community values and elected representatives need to be held accountable for with their policies and actions.
I will not be swayed by interests other than those of my constituents. I have the courage to focus on solutions for real problems. I will work I for every one of you with kindness, compassion, intelligence and integrity.
I have always believed in serving others and contributing to my community.
I volunteered as a candy striper at the hospital where I later attended nursing school, I've taught Sunday catechism and held leadership positions in civic and political organizations, I've been a member of the League of Women Voters, I'm a member of our local Chamber of Commerce as a political candidate and I'm a member of Free Mom Hugs of SWMO.
I think the most important thing about community involvement is that we all remember to be there for each other, that every one is important and that we all somehow participate as we are able as much as we are able.
