What should the legislature do to increase the supply of affordable and middle-market housing in Massachusetts?

Yes, I strongly support election day voter registration. It’s crucial to ensure everyone can participate in the democratic process, regardless of registration status. Some people relocate close to election day or mistakenly believe they are registered, which prevents them from making their voices heard. Same-day registration empowers residents and encourages higher voter turnout. This law can also include safeguards against voter fraud, ensuring integrity of the election. By making it easier for people to vote while maintaining security measures, we can create a more inclusive democracy and ensure that every eligible voter can shape our future.
It is vital for the legislature to address the climate emergency in every decision they make, considering the environmental consequences of their votes. It was disappointing to see the House and Senate fail to agree on a climate bill this past week, even after Governor Healy’s mediation. We need impactful, sensible climate legislation, which is long overdue. Legislators must think creatively to support the environment while ensuring our efforts are inclusive and equitable. It’s essential to look at communities across the state, like Plymouth, as examples of effective climate action. Wemust lead with innovative and creative solutions to protect our planet for future generations.
One of the most common issues I hear about while canvassing is housing affordability. We need to think creatively about increasing the supply of affordable housing by: -Streamlining the permitting process (while not cutting corners) to reduce delays and pass costs to consumers. -Utilizing state and town-owned land that is buildable but currently unoccupied. -Increasing funding for affordable housing. -Statewide Master Planning to allow for long term planning. -Offering tax incentives and pursuing zoning reform. -Supporting community land trusts and enhancing housing trust funds to further preserve affordability. -Provide tax credit to build new homes to be built while keeping equity and sustainability at the forefront.
I support legislation that treats those who migrate to the Commonwealth with dignity and respect, while addressing the state’s fiscal responsibility. Providing newcomers with essential resources such as access to employment and training opportunities, English language programs, mental health support, and education for their children is crucial for a smooth transition and integration. Ensuring that refugees feel safe and receive resettlement assistance is vital. By empowering immigrants to thrive, we can help them contribute to our economy and enrich the diversity of our communities. I will do everything I can to advocate for increased federal funding to ensure the burden of supporting migrants is not placed solely on the taxpayers of MA
My priorities for transportation statewide and in my district include reopening the Plymouth station to enhance accessibility and convenience for commuters. I will advocate for increased investment in the MBTA and commuter rail systems to improve reliability and usability for all residents while holding the MBTA accountable. Additionally, I will work to enhance GATRA and Dial-A-Ride services, ensuring they are more dependable for those without transportation in our large town. Finally, I support the creation of dedicated bike lanes to promote safer cycling and reduce traffic congestion. By prioritizing these initiatives, we can foster a more sustainable, efficient, and inclusive transportation network within our community.
