Yes. We must continue to remove all unnecessary barriers to voting, and pre-registration is one of them. There are many reasons why someone may need to register the same day - recently moved, recently turned 18 and didn’t pre-register, etc. This type of registration has proven to increase turnout amongst different groups and has no compromise to election security. Yes, it may require additional administrative resources/support, but that is well worth it if it means expanding the right to vote.
Both of the communities that I would represent have lots of coastline and open/green spaces, so this is of course very important to me. Here are some ideas: - Expanding and increasing the bottle bill - Electrifying our public transportation system - Implementing producer liability policies - Improving environmental siting process - Bolstering the green economy and helping with the transition into green energy by investing in projects and providing in job training/education - Ensuring new buildings have higher efficiency standards and are suited to use alternative energy sources - Investing more funding into local infrastructure projects to help bolster climate resiliency efforts
As someone who grew up facing homelessness and living in a shelter, this issue is of upmost important to me. Here is some of my platform. - Expanding inclusionary zoning/limiting exclusionary zoning - Invest significantly more in public housing development, especially for low-income families, serious, and those who are differently-abled - Increasing revenue streams (via progressive fees on large transactions) to help fund affordable housing projects - Local option rent stabilization measures - Increasing rental subsidy programs - Support community land trusts
As Senator Brendan Crighton’s Legislative Director, I’ve been fortunate to work on some great legislation in this space, whether it be the Work and Family Act and the Tuition Equity legislation. Here are some additional measures we should take: - Supporting the Safe Communities Act and similarly ending 287g’s - Supporting Cover All Kids Act - Ensuring that all individuals have access to translation and accommodations when interacting with government/services, whether it be with an agency, in schools, etc.
Currently working for the Senate Chair of the Joint Committee on Transportation, I have lots of experience in this sector and there is obviously lots of work to be done. Here is some of my platform - Increasing chapter 90 allotments, so that municipalities have more money to improve - Electrifying our commuter rail to create more affordable, frequent, and reliable service - Expanding water transportation offerings. - Working with the relatively new transportation funding task force to identify new/sustainable sources of revenue - Reforming MBTA safety oversight - Expanding commuter benefits
